77The Help looks like the champ of 2011....with great box office, great reviews from critics and audiences, a Best Picture Oscar® nomination and one Oscar® win.
Hub Update: February 27th 2012.
Well here we are at the end of February 2012, and a few movies from 2011 are still earning some money at the box office. All other variables that are used to calculate the scores earned by a movie are now complete. Hugo and The Artist were the big Oscar® winners this year and move to 12th and 19th place. The Artist is the only movie that looks like it can still make some headway on the rankings.
How Some of The Best Picture Oscar Nominees Have Done in the Last Six Weeks.
The Descandents is now ranked as the 10th best movie of the year.
Moneyball is now ranked as the 11th best movie of the year.
Hugo is now ranked as the 12th best movie of the year.
The Artist is now ranked as the 19th best movie of the year.
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close is now ranked as the 61st best movie of the year.
On the box office side....Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol crossed the 200 million dollar mark but remains in 7th place for the year, while Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows crossed the 180 million dollar mark for 9th place for the year.
I have been updating this hub for the last 9 months. Over those 9 months only three movies have topped the charts. Those three movies were in order....Rango, Fast Five, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2. Today's Oscar® nominations have moved a new movie to the top spot. The Help earned 4 Oscar® nominations including Best Picture and moves Harry Potter out of the way to claim the number one spot.
Table One: Top 10 Box Office Hits and Top 10 Critic/Audience movies of the year.
Table Two: The Top 50 Movies of 2011 according to Movie Score.

So what the heck are Movie Scores?
Essentially you take the reviews of the experts like Roger Ebert and Leonard Maltin, the scores from Rotten Tomatoes, the public opinion votes from Yahoo Movies and IMDB, and the box office information from Box Office Guru and Box Office Mojo. Movie Score takes all of these options and creates a mathematical equation that generates a score from 1 to 100. The higher the score the better the movie.

Green Lantern Above movies like 50/50 and the Lincoln Lawyer? I dont agree with that, but your top 20 were solid I would just switch a few.
wow, i'm very surprised to see that "Jack and Jill" didn't end up being rated as the number 1 worst movie last year. lol. i have to admit this year's oscars were better than last years, but it's sad that some of the movies that deserved a nomination for best picture got snubbed.
That's a big bump for A seperation...
Yes, any film going to DVD is done with box office mostly. You might want to change the wording up at the top to say "Hub update February 27th." - that is why I got confused.
Looking forward to the update of this hub when you wake up tomorrow. We will see how the major awards The Artist got affects its position.
Exciting news Bruce, Michael Bay will be directing a 4th Transformers movie! [bites fist] And I've heard it might be a reboot! [bites knee] The title is rumoured to be The Amazing Transformers Begins.
harry potter, mission impossible and transformers are my favourites.
kung fu panda 2 and captain america are also good.
I didn't even see the Phantom Menace in its original form...
Star Wars The Phantom Menace out this weekend who's seeing it in 3-D? Flora? Bruce? :)
The Help no.1? gaaah! Who compiled your list, Rob?? Can you please put Transformers Dark of the Fallen back in it's rightful place Brucerson? :0
I've seen 33 of the top 50 which I'm quite pleased with, but it hasn't been one of the best film years. Hopefully we'll get some genuinely great movies released this year. When's Piranha 3DD coming out? ;)
Glad to see some of the art films moving up.

Hey nuttyforbuffalo ....well it is based strictly on numbers....and The Green Lantern still managed almost 120 million at the box office....compared to roughly 30 million for 50/50 and 60 million for The Lincoln Lawyer. If you look at the critic/audience rating....The Green Lantern is way down the list....with only a 45% score. I think all three movies you are in the Top 50...which is pretty good....an average score for all the movies I have done is 39.60...so all three beat the average....but their weaknesses...hold them back somewhat..thanks for the comment.
