I've never liked Tom Cruise and I dislike him more and more as his career goes on. I saw his break-through film "Risky Business" when it first came out and he didn't impress him. The only Tom Cruise films I've seen in theaters since then were "Rain man" (Because Dustin Hoffman was in it), "the Firm" (Because of the great Gene Hackman), and "A Few Good men" (Because of Nicholson). He still doesn't impress me. I rate him as a mediocre talent who's good looks have made him a matiness idol. Very over-rated.
I actually enjoyed the Mission Impossible movies; surprised myself.:) Still can't believe he's number two on the Greatest list. Guess I'm just ooold.
up/useful
Well, I love Tom Cruise he has been a star longer than I have been alive. Great hub. One day he will win an oscar. Long live Tom. voted up
Very nice, I am not sure I understand the link you attached to this hub. But interesting stuff you have written about.
He's a bit of a pillock with his loonyology, but he's a good actor. I watched a few good men only a few weeks ago and he put in a great performance. When you look through the list he's actually been in a lot of good movies. Great movie magic as usual from our Mr movies. Cheers
Well, I did not know that Tom Cruise's movies made that much money. I like him and think he is a good actor. The Firm and A Few Good Men and Rain Man are some of my favorite movies but like most of them. VERY INTERESTING FACTS. KEEP THE HUBS COMING. ANOTHER INTERESTING HUB WOULD BE HOW MUCH MONEY COMES TO ACTORS FOR MOVIES, DVD'S AND OF COURSE TV AND HOW LONG DO ACTORS KEEP GETTING RIDUALS. MUST BE HELPFUL WHEN TIMES ARE SLIM PICKENS.
Hmmm [glances at list] none of his films are in my top 20 or top 50 for that matter, gosh I sound snobby. :)
Top Gun was fun, 4th of July was depressing. I did enjoy A Few Good Men but Nicholson had more to do with that than Tom or Demi Moore. Of his recent films I liked Minority Report and War of the Worlds. He does a lot of running in his films and he grins a lot. He made me laugh in Tropic Thunder. I wasn't impressed with Knight & Day. But I did like the epic Last Samurai...
Wow what a rambling post... but you did miss one interesting titbit Cogerson, Tom's real name - Thomas Mapother IV. I wonder how far he would have got with that name? :)
Voted up and fascinating.
Your hub has provoked a lot of discussion in our household. It turns out that Tom Cruise is the number one star in our DVD collection here, but he isn't anyone's favorite actor. We're still trying to figure out how that happened. As usual, another great hub.
Well done!!! My favorite Tom Cruise role is when he was jumping up and down on Oprah's couch....It's not on your list??? Hmmmmm. I'm a big time Outsiders fan and he played a good supporting role in that movie. Other than that not a fan. UP!!!
Looking at your comments it looks like very few people like Tom Cruise. Looking at your box office numbers, it looks like lots of people go to his movies. So can I conclude that people are being forced to go to the movies to see Tom Cruise? Nice hub, voted up.
I would say I am neutral when it comes to Cruise. I refuse to watch any of the MissionImpossible movies, but I liked Collateral, and Magnoilia. Good hub, and interesting comments as well. Voted up and useful.
I didn't even realize he had been in so many movies even though I've hears of them all or seen them.I liked him in Risky Business when I was in high school and he was superb in Rain Man! I'll have to revisit some haven't seen.
Up and awesome oh and useful!
Truly my pleasure Cogerson!
I am in the "I do not really like Tom Cruise" boat, but I do realize that he was a very popular actor. Thanks for the hub. Where is Al Pacino? Voted up.
"Attica!" "Attica!"
"You still picking your feet in poughkeepsie?"
Oh yes! :)
Cogerconanson, I saw Scarecrow, not one of my favourites.
I was thinking (I do that sometimes) Tom Cruise appeared with a lot of big stars in his movies, Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman, Robert Duvall, Jack Nicholson, Jon Voight, Paul Newman, Brad Pitt (wink). But he missed two of the biggest, Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. He still has time...
I'm not a huge Tom Cruise fan at all. As some one else posted, I've like him less and less as his career goes on. But I have to say, you have written a fantastic hub! Well organized, great charts, photos. Fantastic job of grabbing the readers attention--great job!
As for Tom, it's a matter of me trying to separate Cruise the actor from Cruise the PR nightmare, I think. I loved Risky Business because I was a young teen when that came out. I also liked Jerry McGuire and Rain Man, but that's about it.
Again, great hub--voted up!
I don't really like Tom Cruise, I think he is a bit of a weirdo myself and he is sorta over rated, BUT one of my favorite movies which is in my top 10 list is Interview with the vampire which he was pretty great in. everything else i dont reaaly care for except he was funny in tropic thunder.
Decent Hub, thanks for putting it out there. I would have liked if you showed a little more love for LEGEND, but hey, do your thing. I would like to see WWII vs. Vietnam movies next. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for sharing this, very well laid out hub with us here. I have been an on and off fan of Tom Cruise over the years. He seems to have the will to carry his acting on strong, and he needs that too. Yet, I think that he will be lost allot to the younger generations who didn't know his former works at all.
A very good hub as usual. I find it interesting alot of people feel the same way I do. Not a big fan but like his movies. I think his biggest talent seems to be getting involved in the best movies with lots of the best/better acting talent around.
To me Tom always plays the same charactor, a snotty Overconfident guy who learns humility. That is my take on it.
Wow. You put a lot of detail into this hub. I honestly had no idea how many movies he was actually in...
