I've never liked Tom Cruise and I dislike him more and more as his career goes on. I saw his break-through film "Risky Business" when it first came out and he didn't impress him. The only Tom Cruise films I've seen in theaters since then were "Rain man" (Because Dustin Hoffman was in it), "the Firm" (Because of the great Gene Hackman), and "A Few Good men" (Because of Nicholson). He still doesn't impress me. I rate him as a mediocre talent who's good looks have made him a matiness idol. Very over-rated.

I actually enjoyed the Mission Impossible movies; surprised myself.:) Still can't believe he's number two on the Greatest list. Guess I'm just ooold.

Hey Robwrite....I would have to say he is not one of my favorites either...I think if his next Mission Impossible fails, his box office reign could be in serious trouble. Two of the Cruise movies I did like were Vanilla Sky(I know I am one of the few....I loved Kurt Russell in that movie)and Tropic Thunder were he had a very funny supporting role....just so you know Eddie Murphy will be the next modern day actor....thanks for the comments

Hey Fay....well circle December 16th 2011 on your calender....because Mission Impossible-Ghost Protocol will be released in a movie theater near you......as for his #2 ranking....although I am not the biggest fan of Cruise...you have to give him credit.....30 years of movie blockbusters, critically acclaimed movies, and Oscar nominated performances...is a pretty impressive run...thanks for reading

He's a bit of a pillock with his loonyology, but he's a good actor. I watched a few good men only a few weeks ago and he put in a great performance. When you look through the list he's actually been in a lot of good movies. Great movie magic as usual from our Mr movies. Cheers

Cogerson profile image

Cogerson Hub Author 12 months ago

Hey attemptedhumour....he has pretty much stopped talking about his "loonyology"...which was probably a pretty wise idea....his list of good movies is pretty impressive...and they have all made a ton of movie...thanks for commenting....

Well, I did not know that Tom Cruise's movies made that much money. I like him and think he is a good actor. The Firm and A Few Good Men and Rain Man are some of my favorite movies but like most of them. VERY INTERESTING FACTS. KEEP THE HUBS COMING. ANOTHER INTERESTING HUB WOULD BE HOW MUCH MONEY COMES TO ACTORS FOR MOVIES, DVD'S AND OF COURSE TV AND HOW LONG DO ACTORS KEEP GETTING RIDUALS. MUST BE HELPFUL WHEN TIMES ARE SLIM PICKENS.

Hmmm [glances at list] none of his films are in my top 20 or top 50 for that matter, gosh I sound snobby. :)

Top Gun was fun, 4th of July was depressing. I did enjoy A Few Good Men but Nicholson had more to do with that than Tom or Demi Moore. Of his recent films I liked Minority Report and War of the Worlds. He does a lot of running in his films and he grins a lot. He made me laugh in Tropic Thunder. I wasn't impressed with Knight & Day. But I did like the epic Last Samurai...

Wow what a rambling post... but you did miss one interesting titbit Cogerson, Tom's real name - Thomas Mapother IV. I wonder how far he would have got with that name? :)

Voted up and fascinating.

Your hub has provoked a lot of discussion in our household. It turns out that Tom Cruise is the number one star in our DVD collection here, but he isn't anyone's favorite actor. We're still trying to figure out how that happened. As usual, another great hub.

Hey BERN1960....the last few years have not been the kindest to him.....but I am sure Mission Impossible IV will probably break the bank this Xmas....thanks for the compliment....as for your residual question I have never seen any info on that...but I will keep my eyes open for it...thanks for stopping by

Hey Steve....yep I do not think Thomas Cruise Mapother IV is a name for the movie marquees...in reading your comments ...it sounds like you Mr. Cruise more than you want to admit...it's ok....he is a very popular actor....lol......I agree with you that Minority Report is a very good movie....to me...much better than War of the Worlds....thanks for reading and commenting

Hey BoomerFlicks.....interesting dilemma you have....I would say you have so many Cruise movies....is because all his movies were "event" movies(at least before 2006)..I know I bought Mission Impossible 3....only because it was a great price it's first week in release....but the DVD was everywhere on sale....you could not miss it even if you wanted to...Cruise is not my favorite either....this is my 51st hub....and I finally got around to him....but looking at my DVD collection I have 19 of his movies....he is like a virus...lol....thanks for reading

Cogerconanson, I saw Scarecrow, not one of my favourites.

I was thinking (I do that sometimes) Tom Cruise appeared with a lot of big stars in his movies, Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman, Robert Duvall, Jack Nicholson, Jon Voight, Paul Newman, Brad Pitt (wink). But he missed two of the biggest, Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. He still has time...

Cogerson profile image

Cogerson Hub Author 12 months ago

Cruise had better find a movie for them quick...Pacino is 71 and De Niro is 67 about to be 68.....I always find it sad to realize that actors are nearing the end....like I do not think there will be anymore Gene Hackman movies...what a shame.

I'm not a huge Tom Cruise fan at all. As some one else posted, I've like him less and less as his career goes on. But I have to say, you have written a fantastic hub! Well organized, great charts, photos. Fantastic job of grabbing the readers attention--great job!

As for Tom, it's a matter of me trying to separate Cruise the actor from Cruise the PR nightmare, I think. I loved Risky Business because I was a young teen when that came out. I also liked Jerry McGuire and Rain Man, but that's about it.

Again, great hub--voted up!

I don't really like Tom Cruise, I think he is a bit of a weirdo myself and he is sorta over rated, BUT one of my favorite movies which is in my top 10 list is Interview with the vampire which he was pretty great in. everything else i dont reaaly care for except he was funny in tropic thunder.

Thanks for sharing this, very well laid out hub with us here. I have been an on and off fan of Tom Cruise over the years. A very good hub as usual. I find it interesting alot of people feel the same way I do. Not a big fan but like his movies. I think his biggest talent seems to be getting involved in the best movies with lots of the best/better acting talent around.

To me Tom always plays the same charactor, a snotty Overconfident guy who learns humility. That is my take on it.
