Sylvester Stallone has been appearing in movies since 1970. Playing Rocky Balboa in 1976's Rocky; turned Stallone into a superstar. Rocky was a monster hit(55 million tickets sold) and a critical hit. Rocky received 10 Academy Award nominations......it won three Oscars. Stallone received two of those nominations for Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay. To date there have been six Rocky movies, the most recent was Rocky Balboa in 2006. Stallone also has had great success playing John Rambo in the First Blood movies. Rambo: First Blood Part 2 is Stallone's 2nd biggest box office hit with a 2011 estimated box office of 337.10 million. To date there have been four Rambo movies, the most recent was Rambo in 2008. Over the course of his career he has had sixteen movies open number one at the box office. His most recent #1 movie is The Expendables in 2010.

Unfortunately for Sylvester Stallone, he is also associated with some really bad movies. To date he has been nominated for twenty-seven Razzie Awards, which includes eight Razzie wins. His most recent Razzie win was Worst Supporting Actor in SpyKids 3D: Game Over in 2004.

The Best of Sylvester Stallone.

#1 Rocky(Movie Score 86.39)...ranks #214 of the greatest movies ever on IMDB....the movie that started the franchise

#2 Rocky II(Movie Score 64.97)....the sequel.....and this time Rocky wins the title

#3 Antz(Movie Score 64.38)......he provides the voice of an army ant....the first DreamWorks computer animated film

#4 Rocky III(Movie Score 63.83).....the one where Mickey the trainer dies .....Hulk Hogan and Mr. T appear as well

#5 Rocky IV(Movie Score 61.15)....the one where Apollo dies in the ring....Dolph Lundgren and Brigitte Nielsen play the bad Russians

#6 Rambo: First Blood Part II(Movie Score 59.11)....the sequel that ruled the box office in 1985

#7 First Blood(Movie Score 58.23)....by far the best of the Rambo movies....was not a huge hit at the box office

#8 Cliffhanger(Movie Score 58.11)...John Lithgowsteals the show as the villain

#9 Demolition Man(Movie Score 47.77)....Wesley Snipes, Denis Leary and Sandra Bullock help make this one of Stallone better movies

#10 Spy Kids 3D: Game Over(Movie Score 44.77)....Stallone plays the Toymaker in this sequel to a sequel that made a ton of money

My guilty pleasure is # 11 Tango & Cash......I know it is not a great movie....but I like it....Kurt Russell and Stallone make a good team.

The Worst of Sylvester Stallone.

The Bronze: Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot!(Movie Score 20.29).....I for one am shocked, that a Sylvester Stallone comedy with a gun toting Estelle Getty did not do better

RunnerUp: Rhinestone(Movie Score 18.01)....wait...you are telling me....that the story of a New York city cab driver that gets turned into a country western singer...was not any good...I do not believe it

Winner: Get Carter(Movie Score 16.18)....a remake of the Michael Caine classic, even bringing back Caine did not save this movie.

Eye See You(pretty much a straight to DVD movie) and Capone(an early supporting part)... have lower Movie Scores but where excluded from winning the worst movie medals.

The trailer of Rhinestone starring Sylvester Stallone and Dolly Parton.

Movie Score card for Stallone's # 4 movie Rocky III.......which is one of my favorites.

So what the heck are Movie Scores?

There are all kinds of ways to determine if you want to see or skip a movie. You can depend on your favorite critic. My favorites are Roger Ebert and Leonard Maltin. You might go to Rotten Tomatoes to get the consensus of all the critics. You might watch the viewer ratings at Yahoo Movies and IMDB. You might depend on which movies are doing the best at the box office. You might wait for the end of the year awards. Movie Score takes all of these options and creates a mathematical equation that generates a score from 1 to 100. The higher the score the better the movie.

My most popular hub to date: Over 4000 hits and 400 comments.

Stallone was a good action star. He, Arnold S. and Harrison Ford were the heirs to guys like John Wayne and Errol Flynn. I enjoyed several of his movies. He should stay away from comedies, though, because some of his comedies were pretty bad.

He is actually a very good writer and his script for the original "Rocky" film was very good.

Rob....I agree his comedies are brutal....you have to give him credit, he has been one of the best box office draws for 35 years now.....that is an impressive run.....also I am working on a Bing Crosby hub....it should be done by the end of the week.....finding his early 1930 box office information has been very challenging

"Adriaaaan!" Antz is still my favourite Stallone film.

Kidding. I've never really thought about it, looking at your list... probably First Blood. Rocky III was a fave when I was a kid. Tango & Cash was a fun action flick, so was Cliffhanger and Demolition Man. I enjoyed Expendables recently.

Stallone was good as the half deaf cop in Cop Land and more than held his own among co-stars Robert De Niro and Harvey Keitel.

Interesting to see Rocky is his no.1 grosser in adjusted dollars, beating Rambo II, one of the biggest hits of the 80's.

Great hub Cogerson, cheers.

Hey Steve....Rocky by far is his biggest hit.....Rocky 3 almost outperformed Rambo First Blood 2 as well....Stallone probably had one of the best years ever in 1985....with Rocky IV and Rambo II selling almost 100 million tickets in one year....I was never impressed with CopLand.....but I give him kudos for trying something different...thanks for commenting

He is always put down as being not too bright, the tall poppy syndrome. He wrote and starred in Rocky I, one of the best movies ever made. I loved all of the rocky and Rambo movies. I think fame has clouded his judgement but what a great contribution he's made to the movie world. Cheers.

Great hub Cogerson, I love Stallone movies though some have been horrendus. D-Tox jumps to my mind immediatly, I loved the original Rocky 1 and 2 and also First Blood parts one and two.

I love the latest instalments of both those movies two, with Rambo and the Expendables being total guy movies, I think Expendables 2 is being talked about.

Thanks again.

Man, Balboa and Rambo pretty much clear out the top 10. I recently saw the Expendables and thoroughly enjoyed it. Howver probably my favorite is his epic portrayal of John Spartan(Demolition Man), probably because of Bullock and Leary along for the ride. Lets go to TACO BELL.

You have to hand it to Stallone, when he was on fire in the 1980's he knew what audiences wanted. Pure storytelling full of action and emotion.

One of my favourites of his movies was actually Paradise Alley. One of his best or worse? I loved it.

Thanks for the Hub Cogerson

Cogerson profile image

Cogerson Hub Author 13 months ago

Thanks for stopping by Shinkicker. I agree his 1985 year will probably never be matched ....that was the year of Rocky IV and Rambo II....the peak of his career. I actually have not seen Paradise Alley. I will add it to my list of movies to watch.

ruffridyer Level 4 Commenter 11 months ago

Stallones career has always intrigued me. He would make a hit movie followed by a couple flops, then another hit, a couple more flops followed by,.. well you get the picture.

I watched demolishon man for the third time a few weeks ago and wondered about something. When stallones charactor was put in deep freeze L.A. was a lawless mass of rioting and crime, When he was unthawed the whole city was like a giant Candy Land. How did one man create this new city and why should stallone stop him?

Cogerson profile image

Cogerson Hub Author 11 months ago

Hey ruffridyer....excellent point on Demolition Man.....I think because Sly Stallone would not last long in Candy Land.....taking a line from Cobra.....Candy Land would need a disease so Stallone can provide the cure.

As for his up and down career, I will give him credit he tried to make some different type of movies....after Rocky he made Paradise Alley and FIST....which tried to esablish some acting good will....but the public did not respond so he went back to Rocky 2....looking at his whole career...it almost looks like he makes a Rambo/Rocky movie when his bank account needed a charge...thanks for the great comments.
