Five More Possibly Interesting Facts About Robin Williams.

1. Did you know Robin Williams had a hand in the success of Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List? Spielberg would often call Williams during the filming of Schindler's List, he would put Williams on speaker phone and have Williams tell jokes to the cast and crew to cheer them up.

2. Roles Robin Williams turned down or was seriously considered for: Little Miss Sunshine, Philadelphia, The Shining, BAtman Forever, Three Amigos, Midnight Run, Chaplin and Harry Potter(the Hagrid part), and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

3. Robin Williams is in the Disney Hall of Fame. He agreed to be a Disney Legend in 2009. This was after many Disney successes and many Disney conflicts. To solve one of their disputes the Disney company gave Williams a Picasso painting.

4. Robin Williams box office trivia: 15 movies open number one during his career. He has had 12 of his movies cross the 100 million dollar mark. His Mrs. Doubtfire is ranked as the 86th biggest box office hit of all-time when looking at adjusted box office. And his Good Morning Vietnam was the number one movie at the box office for an amazing 10 weeks. Not bad stats for an actor that was considered box office poison during the early part of his career.

5. Robin Williams is the 80th actor/actress to receive a Cogerson career review hub page. My Greatest Actors/Actress Table has two separate tables....the first table ranks the 80 actors using all of their movies. Robin Williams comes in at #34 on that table one spot behind of #33 Cameron Diaz. The second table only looks at the actor's Top Ten Movie Score Movies. On that table Robin Williams comes in at #22....just ahead of his good friend #23 Robert DeNiro.

Academy Award® and Oscar® are the registered trademarks of the Academy of Motion Arts and Sciences.

Golden Globes® are the registered trademark and service mark of the Hollywood Foreign Press.

I thought this was a pretty cool picture so I am including it for no other reason than that.

Well, I had no idea that he made so many movies but I enjoyed his role in Good Will Hunting and some other movies. I liked the role he played in Mrs. Doubtfire - that was a good role...another great HUB Cogerson. Thanks again for interesting facts.......

Hey Cammiebar. Thanks for the votes up. I think the two movies you mention are very interesting ones. What Dreams May Come is very well done, it even won an Oscar, but it is pretty depressing....although it is a movie that I seem to think about many times. As for Death to Smoochy...I think it is gaining cult status....it just got totally ignored at the box office. But I like the movie as well, one of Danny Devito's more interesting directed movies. Thanks for stopping by.

Hey Bern1960....he has been a very busy actor....52 movies in thirty years and this does not include all of his tv work and movies that did not get released to theaters(The Big Whiteout and Seize the Day). I am glad you liked him in Good Will Hunting(that is one of Debbie's favorite movies as well). Thanks for stopping by.

I love Robin Williams. I grew up watching his movies. I most have seen Aladdin 1000 times when I was younger and he could always make me laugh. Jumanji is another favorite of mine, although I most admit I have not really noticed much of his movies lately. I did not even realize that he was in the Musuem movies until reading your hub. Awesome job.

ShawnH325 3 months ago

Very well done, I am actually shocked that so many of his movies were such box office hits. Although my favorite Robin Williams movie is way down the list, The Survivors, with the late great Walter Matthau. A very interesting and fascinating work that you have put together.

Hey Cogerson, I thought you were done doing hubpages? And yet I get an e-mail saying you have a new hub. Great facts, and I especially liked the trivia on Robin helping out Spielberg on Schlinder's List. I can easily see how that would have helped out the crew.

As for Robin Williams, I used to be a big fan of his, but he lost me during the late 90s, too many depressing movies like Bicentenial Man, Jakob the Liar, When Dreams May Come. Somewhere he lost his funny. Voted up and interesting as always.

Hey AlabamaGirl86....I know what you mean about seeing Aladdin so many times...I have had 4 kids go through a heavy rotation of watching Aladdin repeatedly. Robin Williams is always funny whenever he shows up. Jumanji is an interesting movie as well. As for the Night of the Musuem movies, his part is pretty small....but he over 60 now so supporting roles will probably be his future. Thanks for stopping by.

Hey Shawn...I do believe Robin Williams is in the Top 10 of box office stars as his movies have grossed over 3 billion in US alone. I have always liked Survivors myself. It would be a classic if it had a better ending. Thanks for the comments.

Hey KellyE....well my time spent on hubpages has decreased...but the fact is HubPages has the best format to produce the best articles....so I write the hub here and share it everywhere else....with ChimeIn being the site I spend the most time on now.

I know what you mean about his movies in the late 1990s....I actually saw Bicentennial Man at the theater...he spends the whole movie watching people die or wishing he would die.....not too happy of a movie...I have never seen Jakob the Liar....but it seems like a pretty depressing movie as well.

Hey Yankees Rule...you make a good point about the uneven film career of Robin Williams....it took him almost a decade to have a box office hit....but during his prime there was not a bigger star out there. A quick check on IMDB does not show many projects in the near future...but I feel he will have another classic or two before he retires.....thanks for checking my latest hub.

Gooood Mooooooooooooorning Vietnaaaaaaaam!

Another great hub Bruce, packed with facts and statistics. Where else would you find all this on Robin Williams in one place? Kudos amigo.

Good Will Hunting number one on the moviescore... hmmm good film but not one of my faves and it had too much Aflleck and Damon and not enough Williams. :)

Good Morning Vietnam no.2, thats much better. Thats when his film career suddenly took off if I'm not mistaken.

I remember being angry he wasn't Oscar nominated for Mrs. Doubtfire that year, he was so good in that film. Comedy rarely gets any respect from the Academy.

Boy he did appear in some real turkeys didn't he?

Let's see I've seen... 25 of the 45 you've listed, is that good or bad can't tell anymore.

I've seen 9 of his top hits, didn't see Patch Adams the reviews put me off.

I've seen 8 on the critics charts, missed Moscow on the Hudson and Worlds Greatest Dad.

I like that you've seperated his voice work, I've seen 5 of those, havent seen Everyones Hero or Happy Feet 2.

When I first saw Disney's Aladdin I thought 'what is this crap?' until the genie appeared and Williams voicing of the character transformed the movie and made it a superhit.

Voted Up, Useful and Interesting.

It doesn't matter what he does, he will always be Mork in my eyes. That was his best role ever! He is such a strange, energetic man. I never knew he was considered for the part of Hagrid in Harry Potter. I can't picture it. Voted up!

Will go over the films I've seen overall and discuss in general later as I am expecting a phone call any minute. But I will talk about top tens that I have seen.

Top ten box office : I've seen 6 of them:

1,3, 4, 6, 7, and 8

Top ten critics: I have seen 7 of them:

1,2,3,4,5,6, and 9.

Top ten movie score: I have seen 7

1,2,3,4,5,6, and 8.

In general, I can say I've seen many of his best films from earlier in his career.

edit: I just saw Jeanie's comment - I agree, that he will always be Mork from Mork and Mindy to me.

Hey Sunshine625....I think What Dreams May Come is a stunning movie to see....I just think the subject matter is a downer...I have only watched it once but I vividly remember the movie. At least it finished in the Top 20....thanks for stopping by.

Gooooooooooood moooooooooooooooorning Stttttttttttttteve. Thanks for stopping by. I think the fact that Williams won his only Oscar is the reason Good Will Hunting tops the charts. I have seen 35 of his 45 live action movies and 4 of his 7 voice movies...for a grand total of 39.

I am sure I will see Happy Feet Two pretty soon as it will be a Blu-Ray purchase in another month or two.

I think his career has some serious highs and lows....I think you could argue that all of his before Good Morning Vietnam were not the best....while all his movies after Good Will Hunting have been on the bad side as well...which leaves a 10 year run from 1987 to 1997 as his peak years. Which looking at his Top 10 Movie Score movies....8 of them fall into that date range. I actually saw Club Paradise in the theaters....after the first 5 minutes(when he was a fireman) I thought it was going to be a classic.....and then it all fell apart(when he went to the island.) Thanks for the votes up and the compliments they are always greatly appreciated.

Hey Jeannieinabottle....thanks for stopping by. I used to have a hard time not thinking about Mork....but over the years Mork has started to become a distant memory. Being older than you I can remember watching Mork and Mindy in primetime back in the 1970s.....all the kids talked about Mork the next day at school....that lasted for a good couple of years and then Mork lost his coolness factor.

I could see Williams as Hagrid...the studio wanted him...and Chris Columbus(the director) really wanted him....Columbus had directed previously directed Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire and Nine Months...but ultimately J.K. Rowlings vetoed Williams and they stuck with the all English cast....thanks for the compliments.

Hey Flora...I impressed with the amount of Robin Williams movies you have seen. 60% of the box office, and 70% for the critics/audiences and the Movie Score table.

He used to be an actor that would get me to the theater no matter what he was in....but he lost that power pretty much after Good Will Hunting....actually that makes me curious...I have seen 39 of movies...I have actually seen 14 of his movies at the theater...but only 2 in the last 15 years...and they were both kids movies...2006's Happy Feet and Night at the Musuem...thanks for the comment and I look forward to the rest of your comment.

Good Will Hunting

Insomnia

A film that I admire greatly but it is too disturbing to watch a second time is One Hour Photo. I loved awakenings till it got to the end and then I became very angry at what happened. I am particularly ticked off because it is based on a true story.

Regarding the animated films:

I saw Aladdin in the theatre and enjoyed it. I haven't seen any of the others.

Overall: I have seen only movies that have been among his best movies, while some of these films I have never heard of them. The lowest ranking film I have seen is Hamlet at 25. Really.

I have seen 11 of his non-animated movies movies. That is only 23%. And when you add animated films I have seen 12 of 54 films or 20%

BUT: I have seen 44% of his top 25 films.

While my overall total is low, I don't think I'm missing much from the films I haven't seen.

A great hub about a great actor. Robin Williams is able to play so many types of characters and do them all well. Thanks for this informative hub about his career! Voted up, interesting.

Hey Flora....well I think 44% of his top 25 is pretty good...and looking at his movies ranked 26th - 45th...you are not missing much. The only one I like in that group is #26 Cadillac Man which is actually pretty funny and has a nice performance by Tim Robbins.

One Hour Photo was a strange movie, but I really enjoyed Williams in the role...a very confused man....I sure in the future people will not even understand his job of developing film.

I like all of your personal favorites...with Insomnia being the one I least like of that group. I almost did a George Clooney hub....but Robin Williams beat him out....Clooney Clooney Clooney is everywhere these days....lol.

Thanks for stopping by Dale Hyde. I appreciate the comment and the compliment. I agree 100% with you about Williams being so good in so many different roles....and I hoping he has a few more great performances yet to give.

Robin Williams was the man when I was a kid Jumanji, Flubber, Patch Adams, Jack, Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets' Society. I mean no one else has done what he has been able to do across all genres as much as him.

Looking at it now we have a lot in common- only child, ridiculously silly moms, enough hair to donate to science...except I could've never been Mork. He's so awesome, I hope he at least does one more awesome movie before he decides to stop for good. Great hub Cogerson, you brought back awesome memories for me!

Excellent hub. I have enjoyed his career ever since I saw him on that episode of Happy Days. I am glad he has recovered from some of his demons like alcohol and drug problems. He was one of the last people to see John Belushi alive. On a more positive note his support of his long time buddy, Christopher Reeve, was always an inspirational story. Lots of awesome information that was a pleasure to read. Keep up the good work.

Hey Alecia....I am glad my Robin Williams hub was able to bring back some fond memories. I am in the same boat, as I can remember all the times I went to the theater to see some of his greatest films. I appreciate the visit and the comment...they are greatly appreciated.

Hey Ashley...it looks like you have been a Williams fan for a very long time. I remember the publicity he got and did not want for the fact that he was hanging out with Belushi right before Belushi died. Thanks for the compliment and the comment.

Bruce, I think I may be in a minority here but he is not one of my favourite actors and I am surprised at how successful his movies have been. My favourite of his movies is Fisher King, followed by Dead Poet's Society. I do have to admit to liking his voice over work though (maybe it's just his face I don't like?). I love, love, love Aladdin and I've seen it a lot! Voted up etc.

Hi Bruce; I was never a fan of Robin Williams as a comedian but I do like his dramatic work. I look at "Mork and Mindy" or his stand-up routine, and I wonder why anyone thinks this guy is funny. But He's given some very impressive performances in "Insomnia", "Good Will Hunting", "Dead Poets Society", "One Hour Photo" and some others. The only time he actually made me laugh was during his radio routine in "Good Morning Vietnam". Other than that, I prefer him as a dramatic actor. (I feel the same way about Tom Hanks and Jamie Foxx.)

Another informative hub,

Rob

Hey Jools99. You are not the first person that I have come across that is not a huge Robin Williams fan. He has been making movies for 32 years....he has 10 very successful years...and 22 years of pretty bad movies. It seems the older he gets the more voice work he seems to do. Thanks for checking out my latest hub and thanks for the comment.

Hey Rob...I have always liked him...but I agree with you about his stand up....most of his jokes fly right over my head...I think he bases lots of his humor from his life on the west coast....so being on the east coast...I do not get half of his jokes. But as a actor, I am a fan of his work...and I like all four the movies you mentioned....and even more in The Fisher King which you did not mention. Thanks for stopping by...it is always greatly appreciated.

hook, mrs doubtfire, death to smoochy, dead poets society, aladdin. I HATED Happy feet. I love penguins but i hate disguising politics as a kids movie

Hey Justin/PDX....Death to Smoochy seems to be a movie that is gaining cult status every year that passes....I remember when it first came out and people did not get it at all. I am right there with you about Happy Feet, it is a very strange and not fun movie....even my 5 and 3 year olds have no interest in the movie....although they love the penguins from Madgascar.....thanks for the comment.

I loved him in "Mrs. Doubtfire". I'll watch his movies, but most of the time he's a little over-the-top for my taste. Before you ask, I don't know. I'm going to go figure out what my taste is. I'll be back soon. In the meantime, how about a few reviews on some current movies. You know I'm stuck in Mayberry...I need them.:)

Hey FayPax....first of all....very nice to hear from you again. Secondly I understand what you mean about Robin Williams being over the top. And thirdly I have the perfect hub for you....and I think you actually saw the hub during it's baby years....

http://cogerson.hubpages.com/hub/Top-Movies-Of-201

This hub has every major release of the year 2011 and is still being updated......I figure when all the box office numbers for the year finally arrive....I will start a 2012 version.
