Five More Possibly Interesting Facts About Robin Williams.
1. Did you know Robin Williams had a hand in the success of Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List? Spielberg would often call Williams during the filming of Schindler's List, he would put Williams on speaker phone and have Williams tell jokes to the cast and crew to cheer them up.
2. Roles Robin Williams turned down or was seriously considered for: Little Miss Sunshine, Philadelphia, The Shining, BAtman Forever, Three Amigos, Midnight Run, Chaplin and Harry Potter(the Hagrid part), and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
3. Robin Williams is in the Disney Hall of Fame. He agreed to be a Disney Legend in 2009. This was after many Disney successes and many Disney conflicts. To solve one of their disputes the Disney company gave Williams a Picasso painting.
4. Robin Williams box office trivia: 15 movies open number one during his career. He has had 12 of his movies cross the 100 million dollar mark. His Mrs. Doubtfire is ranked as the 86th biggest box office hit of all-time when looking at adjusted box office. And his Good Morning Vietnam was the number one movie at the box office for an amazing 10 weeks. Not bad stats for an actor that was considered box office poison during the early part of his career.
5. Robin Williams is the 80th actor/actress to receive a Cogerson career review hub page. My Greatest Actors/Actress Table has two separate tables....the first table ranks the 80 actors using all of their movies. Robin Williams comes in at #34 on that table one spot behind of #33 Cameron Diaz. The second table only looks at the actor's Top Ten Movie Score Movies. On that table Robin Williams comes in at #22....just ahead of his good friend #23 Robert DeNiro.

I thought this was a pretty cool picture so I am including it for no other reason than that.

Well, I had no idea that he made so many movies but I enjoyed his role in Good Will Hunting and some other movies. I liked the role he played in Mrs. Doubtfire - that was a good role...another great HUB Cogerson. Thanks again for interesting facts.......
I love Robin Williams. I grew up watching his movies. I most have seen Aladdin 1000 times when I was younger and he could always make me laugh. Jumanji is another favorite of mine, although I most admit I have not really noticed much of his movies lately. I did not even realize that he was in the Musuem movies until reading your hub. Awesome job.
Very well done, I am actually shocked that so many of his movies were such box office hits. Although my favorite Robin Williams movie is way down the list, The Survivors, with the late great Walter Matthau. A very interesting and fascinating work that you have put together.
Hey Cogerson, I thought you were done doing hubpages? And yet I get an e-mail saying you have a new hub. Great facts, and I especially liked the trivia on Robin helping out Spielberg on Schlinder's List. I can easily see how that would have helped out the crew.
As for Robin Williams, I used to be a big fan of his, but he lost me during the late 90s, too many depressing movies like Bicentenial Man, Jakob the Liar, When Dreams May Come. Somewhere he lost his funny. Voted up and interesting as always.
Robin Williams is one of the funniest comedian/actors alive. My favorite films of his are 'Good Will Hunting,' 'Good Morning Vietnam,' 'Mrs. Doubtfire,' and 'Aladdin' in which he was hysterical as the Genie. Thanks for this excellent review, Cogerson.
All great movies. Loved the hub, voted up and interesting! Hope you enjoy my hubs as well!
Robin Williams has done some really amazing work. Dead Poets Society and The Fisher King are among my favorites.
Excellent job brother, it has been awhile since I have read any of your hubs, thanks for the e-mail notice. I think Robin Williams is hit and miss, for every Good Will Hunting there seem to be two movies like The Final Cut and Club Paradise. An interesting and informative hub.
This gets me in the mood to watch Good Will Hunting tonight. Thanks for a wonderful suggestion list on Robin movies.
I'm a bit bummed that my favorite movie What Dreams May Come came in at #18, but that's okay its my #1. I really enjoyed the photo you added! It's an awesome touch to an amazing hub to an outstanding actor from a superb hubber! Yep you got my votes!
Gooood Mooooooooooooorning Vietnaaaaaaaam!
Another great hub Bruce, packed with facts and statistics. Where else would you find all this on Robin Williams in one place? Kudos amigo.
Good Will Hunting number one on the moviescore... hmmm good film but not one of my faves and it had too much Aflleck and Damon and not enough Williams. :)
Good Morning Vietnam no.2, thats much better. Thats when his film career suddenly took off if I'm not mistaken.
I remember being angry he wasn't Oscar nominated for Mrs. Doubtfire that year, he was so good in that film. Comedy rarely gets any respect from the Academy.
Boy he did appear in some real turkeys didn't he?
Let's see I've seen... 25 of the 45 you've listed, is that good or bad can't tell anymore.
I've seen 9 of his top hits, didn't see Patch Adams the reviews put me off.
I've seen 8 on the critics charts, missed Moscow on the Hudson and Worlds Greatest Dad.
I like that you've seperated his voice work, I've seen 5 of those, havent seen Everyones Hero or Happy Feet 2.
When I first saw Disney's Aladdin I thought 'what is this crap?' until the genie appeared and Williams voicing of the character transformed the movie and made it a superhit.
Voted Up, Useful and Interesting.
It doesn't matter what he does, he will always be Mork in my eyes. That was his best role ever! He is such a strange, energetic man. I never knew he was considered for the part of Hagrid in Harry Potter. I can't picture it. Voted up!
Will go over the films I've seen overall and discuss in general later as I am expecting a phone call any minute. But I will talk about top tens that I have seen.
Top ten box office : I've seen 6 of them:
1,3, 4, 6, 7, and 8
Top ten critics: I have seen 7 of them:
1,2,3,4,5,6, and 9.
Top ten movie score: I have seen 7
1,2,3,4,5,6, and 8.
In general, I can say I've seen many of his best films from earlier in his career.
edit: I just saw Jeanie's comment - I agree, that he will always be Mork from Mork and Mindy to me.
Well, I can tell you that I've already mentioned my favourite films in my earlier post. In aphabetical order, my top five are:
The Bird Cage
Dead Poet's Society
The Fischer King
Good Will Hunting
Insomnia
A film that I admire greatly but it is too disturbing to watch a second time is One Hour Photo. I loved awakenings till it got to the end and then I became very angry at what happened. I am particularly ticked off because it is based on a true story.
Regarding the animated films:
I saw Aladdin in the theatre and enjoyed it. I haven't seen any of the others.
Overall: I have seen only movies that have been among his best movies, while some of these films I have never heard of them. The lowest ranking film I have seen is Hamlet at 25. Really.
I have seen 11 of his non-animated movies movies. That is only 23%. And when you add animated films I have seen 12 of 54 films or 20%
BUT: I have seen 44% of his top 25 films.
While my overall total is low, I don't think I'm missing much from the films I haven't seen.
A great hub about a great actor. Robin Williams is able to play so many types of characters and do them all well. Thanks for this informative hub about his career! Voted up, interesting.
Robin Williams was the man when I was a kid Jumanji, Flubber, Patch Adams, Jack, Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets' Society. I mean no one else has done what he has been able to do across all genres as much as him.
Looking at it now we have a lot in common- only child, ridiculously silly moms, enough hair to donate to science...except I could've never been Mork. He's so awesome, I hope he at least does one more awesome movie before he decides to stop for good. Great hub Cogerson, you brought back awesome memories for me!
Excellent hub. I have enjoyed his career ever since I saw him on that episode of Happy Days. I am glad he has recovered from some of his demons like alcohol and drug problems. He was one of the last people to see John Belushi alive. On a more positive note his support of his long time buddy, Christopher Reeve, was always an inspirational story. Lots of awesome information that was a pleasure to read. Keep up the good work.
Bruce, I think I may be in a minority here but he is not one of my favourite actors and I am surprised at how successful his movies have been. My favourite of his movies is Fisher King, followed by Dead Poet's Society. I do have to admit to liking his voice over work though (maybe it's just his face I don't like?). I love, love, love Aladdin and I've seen it a lot! Voted up etc.
Hi Bruce; I was never a fan of Robin Williams as a comedian but I do like his dramatic work. I look at "Mork and Mindy" or his stand-up routine, and I wonder why anyone thinks this guy is funny. But He's given some very impressive performances in "Insomnia", "Good Will Hunting", "Dead Poets Society", "One Hour Photo" and some others. The only time he actually made me laugh was during his radio routine in "Good Morning Vietnam". Other than that, I prefer him as a dramatic actor. (I feel the same way about Tom Hanks and Jamie Foxx.)
Another informative hub,
Rob
hook, mrs doubtfire, death to smoochy, dead poets society, aladdin. I HATED Happy feet. I love penguins but i hate disguising politics as a kids movie
I loved him in "Mrs. Doubtfire". I'll watch his movies, but most of the time he's a little over-the-top for my taste. Before you ask, I don't know. I'm going to go figure out what my taste is. I'll be back soon. In the meantime, how about a few reviews on some current movies. You know I'm stuck in Mayberry...I need them.:)

Interesting and voted up! I feel kind of loser-ish, though, because two of the give of my favorites are just not popular (Death to Smoochy and What Dreams May Come). Great hub!
