Robert Downey, Jr. Movies-Best to Worst- with box office results-thru The Avengers.
81Chris Evans and Robert Downey, Jr. in the record breaking 2012 movie The Avengers....has already crossed 1 billion in worldwide box office.
Hub Update: Wow! What a start for The Avengers! The Avengers smashed the record for best opening weekend ever with an amazing 373.18 million dollars after two weekends and over a billion in worldwide box office. Looking at Robert Downey Jr's charts.....The Avengers is already his biggest box office hit, his highest rated movie ever and is ranked 2nd according to the Cogerson movie score totals....not a bad three days. Look below to see these three charts. 05/13/2012.
Robert Downey, Jr. has been starring in movies for almost 30 years. His career has been one heck of a rollercoaster ride. The early part of his career, Downey appeared in the comedies Weird Science and Back to School. His performance in Less Than Zero, provided him the opportunity to star in big budget, high profile films like Air America and Soapdish. He received his first Oscar nomination as Best Actor for the film Chaplinin 1992. Things began to fall apart after he appeared in the Oliver Stone film, Natural Born Killers. From 1996 through 2001, Downey was arrested numerous times on drug-related charges. After five years of substance abuse, arrest, rehab, and relapse, Robert Downey, Jr. was finally ready to work toward a full recovery from drugs. Throughout his career, Downey had never appeared in a blockbuster. All that changed when in 2008, Downey appeared as Tony Stark in Ironman. Ironman became one of the biggest hits of all time. Between Iron Man movies, Downey has starred in three more hit movies. Tropic Thunder(which earned him his second Oscar nomination), Sherlock Holmes(sequel coming) and Due Date. My personal favorite Robert Downey Jr. movie is # 25 Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
Robert Downey Jr. in 2009's Iron Man 2...his 3rd biggest box office hit with 312.40 in 2011 adjusted dollars.

So what the heck are Movie Scores?
There are all kinds of ways to determine if you want to see or skip a movie. You can depend on your favorite critic. My favorites are Roger Ebert and Leonard Maltin. You might go to Rotten Tomatoes to get the consensus of all the critics. You might watch the viewer ratings at Yahoo Movies and IMDB. You might depend on which movies are doing the best at the box office. You might wait for the end of the year awards. Movie Score takes all of these options and creates a mathematical equation that generates a score from 1 to 100. The higher the score the better the movie.

Downey is one of the most versitile modern actors. I'm glad he got past his wild-boy, druggie phase and got his act together. He was amazing in "Chaplin". And I think his performance as Tony Stark in "Iron Man" was the best acting job in a super-hero film ever.
Loved Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes! Very informational hub! :)
I've never heard of Fur either. Downey was Oscar nominated for Chaplin nearly 20 years ago, wow. So effortlessly charismatic as Tony Stark in the two Iron Man films. I also enjoyed his hilarious 'dude playing a black dude' role in Tropic Thunder. A sequel to Sherlock Holmes will be out at xmas, looking forward to that.
Thanks for another interesting hub.
I agree that it is so good that Robert Downey, Jr. got straightened out - Thought IRON MAN was very good, U S Marshalls was a good film also. THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL THE GREAT INFORMATION...When I was growing up in Canada we could not go to the movies unless you were 16 years old...there was a terrible fire when small children and adults were in the movie theater and adults trampled children trying to get out of the theater...therefore the rul that you had to be 16...I HAVE MADE UP FOR THE MOVIES I HAVE MISSED SINCE THEN...
i'm a big fans of Downey and i watch all his recent movies..
WOW impressive, I'm so Happy Robert Downey Jr made a comeback, he's great:) Katie
Robert Downey, Jr. is a very impressive man. I love that he was able to successfully hold his demons at bay and his acting skill...what can one say? He seems to never be without work, which is a testament to his skill.
Another excellent hub. Voted up and very useful.
Wow, some amazing facts and figures on Downey, and he and John Cusack are amongst my favorite actors ever. Under-rated but very talented. Chaplin was stunning. A Scanner Darkly was incredible too. Him talking to the girl in the cafe, I smile when I see that. :)
Great hub. Robert Downey Jr. is a wonderful actor. I really enjoyed him as Sherlock Holmes as well as when he played Charlie Chaplin. And I agree that the Diane Arbus movie was awful. What an insult to a great artist, to make such an idiotic film fictionalizing her life.
I loved Kiss Kiss Bang Bang... it's not up there.. oh wait there it is at 25. :)
Fun movie, great dialogue.
Awesome Hub :)
great downey breakdown
I had no idea he had appeared in so many movies, I my favorites are Iron Man and Less Than Zero, he was awesome in Zero, and it forecasted his future life
Yeah - it was tough not getting into the movies back in Montreal until 16. I made up for it though by going to a double feature on the weekend - having lunch - and then going to another double feature - 4 (four) movies in all in one day...how about that!!! ARE THEY REALLY MAKING IRON MAN 3 ???
Downey is awesome, I have like him a long time, Chaplin is fantastic, as well as Tropic Thunder. I am not much of a Iron Man fan. Nice writting.
Another great hub! i'm glad i'm not the only person who thought fur was atrocious. my friend recommended it, but i had to be honest and say it's one of the worst films ever. Diane Arbus however is a fascinating person in reality.
On the whole i like robert downey junior a lot! yet to see iron man. less than zero is my favourite that i've seen!
Nice tribute to Robert Doweny Jr. Very well written. Thanks for share with us. Take care!
Prasetio,
Just loved him in Sherlock Holmes. Hope a sequel comes out soon. Great hub!
Great hub, I have seen parts of Fur, it was horrible, I did not realize that was Downey under all that hair until reading your hub. As a kid I really liked Weird Scienc, go figure.
Some great info on this hub. I thought he was great in Tropic Thunder. In most of his other roles he was basically just playing himself, but in TT he took a backseat to the other actors and portrayed his character perfectly.
Thank you so much, what a useful hub! I love Robert Downey Jr.
Great hub! I love Robert Downey Jr, I'm so glad he was able to overcome his addiction and continue on to have a really successful career. It's hard to believe he's been in that many movies and been acting that long, I didn't realize!
Good hub, glad he rejuvinated his career. Looking foward to Sherlok 2. But Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, really your personal favorite, I have yet to find myself capable of sitting through the entire movie, TERRIBLE. All in all thanks for the facts.
I love Robert Downey, jr. I like your whole movie scoring system, it's pretty interesting. I just go with my gut lol.
I really liked him in Iron Man. He did a good job. But not so much in Sherlock Holmes. Thanks for the hub! : )
Big fan of Robert Downey, Jr. Like the film reviews... but how exactly do the movie scores work?
I very much enjoyed the pleasure of perusing your Hub. I like his acting and most of his films. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang I gave four stars—excellent.
I didn't like Air America because the general was a bad guy for smuggling drugs yet mel gibson and Robert Downey were good guys while smuggling Rifles. WTF.
I remember when Downey had all the drug issues and was kinda diaappointed in him, then I discoverd his father would get him high when he was a child. That is why I try not to judge people.
I always look for your hubs now, well both you and Stevennix, for solid, knowledgeable movie reviews. I enjoyed Air America even with its double standard (mentioned above). It's always great to see a talented fella getting it together.
Oh, Robert Downey Jr., I remember you when you were forced to take a drug test before every scene you had to do. Boy oh boy have times changed.
Personally I don't mind Downey Jr., he's done some roles that I love and some roles that I hated, but all in all he has fun with every character he plays.
Great Hub as always Bruce, Voted Up and Everything Else.
P.S. that picture of him in "Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus" made me laugh so hard I fell out of my chair.
Good work Bruce, I'm looking forward to Sherlock 2, I enjoyed the last one. It's not Basil Rathbone but it was fun.
Iron Man still his top film eh, hopefully the third one is better than the second.
Meanwhile we have The Avengers to look forward too in a few months time.
I count 18 Downey films seen from your main list, 9 from the box office chart, never seen Shaggy Dog. And 6 from the critics chart.
Was he in Gothika? I saw the film but can't remember him in there, was he the villain?
Hmmm I want to see Zodiac again, I've got the dvd. I'll watch it later.
Did Downey play Chewbacca? I missed that one. :)
Vote Up and Useful!
I really like RDJ since he's been on the comeback trail and I agree about him in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. It's like he modernized the old craggy Bogey noirs for a new generation. I'm kind of hoping he does something like that again. Great hub as usual :)!
I have always loved his work, even right back when he did 'Chances Are' with Cybill Shepherd. I enjoyedh is work in Chaplin and was very said when he had his bad run. I was delighted when he came back with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang ( credit to Mel Gibson and Shane Black for resurrecting his career- Downey did a return favor when he spoke on behalf of Mel at an awards ceremony) and loving his work do far. He has bene a franchise magnet and easily dazzles in any role. I cant wait for his take on Perry Mason ( his compnay has bought the rights) Great hub as usual Cogerson with plenty of info magic! voted up!
ha well Robert Downey Jr is a class act ad would always be a class act, but my goodness he has really been in some bad movies (but well who hasn't) like Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus (as you stated earlier). That being said though, he is one reason i can't really get enough of Sherlock Holmes. Great hub once again
Peace

Wow, Downey is last among all these actors, I have never heard of Fur, but the attached photo makes me curious. My favorite Downey Jr. movie is Sherlock Holmes. Thanks for posting htis hub.
