This is the 6th and final part of a sports movie series that will identify the Top 100 Sports Movies Of All-Time. This hub is going to rank 44 racing movies and 27 movies from an assortment of sports. So with this final hub complete, I can now go back to my man cave and work on the hub that required all these other hubs....Top 100 Sports Movies Of All-Time has now been published.

Previous Hubs:

Part 1:.....Best Baseball Movies 54 movies

Part 2:.....Best Football Movies 49 movies

Part 3......Best Basketball and Hockey Movies 60 movies

Part 4.......Best Boxing Movies 62 movies

Part 5......Best Soccer, Golf, Olympics & Other Sports Movies 82 movies

For you horse racing movie fans, I realize that there are hundreds more movies that could have been included. I pretty much picked the ones that were mentioned the most when reading about the best horse racing movies. So movies like Julia Robert's Something To Talk About, which has a horse competition at the end of the movie, did not make the list.

The second table has movies from sports that mostly came from hub e-mails and comments. I have added some poker movies, some surfing movies, some rodeo movies and of course the best arm wrestling movie ever made....Over the Top.

Another interesting list, glad to see one of my grandmother's favorite movies do so well, National Velvet is a classic. Voted up and useful

Another fascinating hub Cogerson. Lots of variety here, rodeo, cheerleading, arm-wrestling and surfing? But I don't see chariot-racing anywhere... :)

My favourite horse-racing movie is the Marx Bros A Day at the Races, good to see it on the list.

I watched Grand Prix a few weeks ago, some good racing sequences but away from the track the film is a humungous bore.

Days of Thunder was flashy and loud but Tom Cruise's constant grinning makes it near unwatchable for me.

I enjoyed Speed Racer on a colourful cartoony level.

Talking of cartoony I think you missed one big racing movie Cogerson, it had a sequel out this year... made by Pixar? Rules say no?

Voted Up and Useful.

Well I see you say there are lots of horseracing movies, but I can not think of any that you have not listed. A very detailed hub and hubs you have produced. The final hub should be interesting. I think Steve could be correct, where is Cars and Cars2? Voted up.

InterestingTom 10 months ago

not as impressive as your other lists, but I give credit for finding some of thiese various sports.

Alright it seems that you have covered all the bases, so what are the Top 100 movies? Looking through your hubs, I do not see any movie getting very close to Rocky the original. As for this hub, Bring It On as a sports movie? Not seeing that one. I also was not that impressed with Seabiscuit, it is good, but I remember people saying it was the best movie ever. voted up.

I will have to list my top 5 movies from both lists combined, because I just can't make a list from the second group. So here it goes.

In alphabetical order, here are my favourite racing films and other sports films:

The Cinncinnati Kid-Robinson and McQueen together

The Great Race-full of great stars and scenery

Junior Bonner-another McQueen film, although this is not a favourite of mine of his overall career.

National Velvet-not a big surprise coming from a classics fan

Seabiscuit (2003)-not usual for me to watch a recent film, but I did this one.

Thanks AlabamaGirl 86, my mom loves that movie as well, I just recently saw it myself, Donald Crisp is excellent as her father. Thanks for stopping by and reading the hub.

Cogerson Hub Author 10 months ago

Hey Steve...thanks for the comments....I can tell you it was hard trying to find good surfing movies....lol. As for Grand Prix, it is much better than McQueen's Le Mans. Yes there are no chariot racing movies....although we all know Ben-Hur would top the charts if that movie was included. As for Cars...and the Herbie movies that were eliminated from consideration....the only animated movie that will make the list is Everyone's Hero....if only because I did not realize it was a computer animated movie until after I published the hub.

Cogerson profile image

Cogerson Hub Author 10 months ago

Hey Kelly, I thought about including more horse racing movies, but the more I researched them the less they seem like horse racing movies....the best example would be Stanley Kubrick's The Killing.....one website listed The Killing as one of the best horse racing movies....yes there is a horse race that goes bad....but the movie is about a crime that goes horribly wrong...not a horse race......see previous comment on why Cars is not listed.

Hey YankeesRule, you might be correct Rocky looks like a contender for #1 movie...it has it all...box office(over million)...critics and audiences love the movie....and it is one of three sports movies to win Best Picture....we will find out soon. As for Bring It On....I got an e-mail suggestion and I figured I could sneak one cheerleading movie into the hub...thanks for stopping by

Cogerson profile image

Cogerson Hub Author 10 months ago

Hey Flora, I understand about not being able to come up with a list from the second table....those movies are very very random....as for your list....nice list...The Great Race was much more popular than I thought it was....it was a monster hit...that received 5 Oscar nominations...Blake Edwards was a very underrated director.....I loved the parents in National Velvet....they were awesome to together.....I am surprised The Story of Seabiscuit with Shirley Temple lost out to the new Seabiscuit. As always thanks for your comments.

Bring It On .... that was a FUN movie! "brrrrr it's cold in here, must be some Torros in the atmosphere!" My cheer every winter when I'm COLD, yes it gets bitter cold in Orlando.

Very creative hub...a hodgepodge of all sorts.

Soul Surfer ... went to a free screening of it. Left halfway through. Faith got scared and my son-in-law was evicted because he was viewing email, he didn't pay attention to the NO CELL PHONES at a FREE SCREENING. One day i'll see the second half. It was kind of slooooow to me.

GREAT HUB! VOTED UP!!!

Like whoa dude I'm questioning whether surfing is a sport or an activity? Skiing okay, it's an Olympic sport too, but surfing? Is skateboarding a sport too, Gleaming the Cube on the list? Breakdancing a sport? :)

Cogerson profile image

Cogerson Hub Author 10 months ago

Hey Sunshine625.....I am glad you liked Bring it On....I have heard about those bitter winters that Florida has....lol. As for Soul Surfer....I thought it was a horror movie until I heard a radio interview with Dennis Quaid and realized it was a surfing movie...thanks for stopping by

Cogerson profile image

Cogerson Hub Author 10 months ago

Well Steve....I can tell you that Blue Crush the highest rated surfing movie will not qualify for the Top 100 sports movies. I have one skating movie....but I actually think Gleaming the Cube could have made it as well....and finally I thought long and hard about including Breaking 2: Electric Boogalo 2 ...but in the end it just missed the cut.

Sunshine625 profile image

Sunshine625 Level 8 Commenter 10 months ago

I kind of knew that was coming lol I consider our winters bitter cold....any temp under 75* is COLD to me. I prefer 90's which is why I live in Florida :)

I went to see Soul Surfer, first because it was free and I've never been to a screening and second because Carrie Underwood was starring in it. I still say it shouldn't have been on the big screen and went straight to Lifetime.

Dennis Quad and Helen Hunt were both amazing in it as was Carrie. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

This is great Cogerson! I love being reminded of some of the movies that are older that my kids may not have seen. Last night we had a bunch of neighborhood kids over and I made real popcorn for the kids - served soda and watermelon and we showed a movie on the out door projector:) it was so much fun! They in fact, They watched The Great Outdoors with John Candy. I bet my kids would like Six Pack.

I think Driven was the racing movie with Stallone? I think if it was raining that badly at the race in japan it would have been cancelled. I am trying to remember the name of the movie with Richard Pryor as a moonshine runner who becomes a professional racer. Jeff Brighes played a fellow driver and friend.

Anyway a good hub as usual.

Cogerson profile image

Hey Ruffridyer yep Driven was with Stallone....and the Pryor movie was called Greased Lightning....which I should have included as well. Thanks for the comments and reading the hub.

Again, excellent list you have here. Although I'm a bit surprised "Seabiscuit" made number one on the racing movies category. Don't get me wrong, I liked the movie a lot myself. I just didn't think it would end up being number one on this list. lol. Oh well. that's one of the reasons why I always like reading your hubs on this stuff, as I always find it interesting to see how each film measures up on these statistics. Anyways, keep up the good work.

Hey Stevennix2001....well Seabiscuit pretty much has awesome numbers across the board....a box office hit, critics and audiences liked the movie...and critical acclaim....7 nominations including a Best Picture nomination..the only thing it is missing is an Oscar win...as it got shut out. Not many movies can glad success in all three major categories....I appreciate you reading my movie sports hubs.

Actually Stevennix2001....I forgot to add in National Velvet's 5 oscar nominations and 2 oscar wins....which moved National Velvet from 3rd to 1st.....I got my mistake on the Top 100 list....I also forgot to add in Grand Prix 3 Oscar wins....which moved it from 5th to 4th.

Day's of thunder is the best racing movie I believe, I watched. Although, there are many others movies but I just loved the spirit of Tom Cruise and her romance with Nicole Kidman made it more spicier.
