Hub update: On 2/25/2012 Meryl Streep won the Oscar® for Best Actress for The Iron Lady. This Meryl Streep hub was my 32nd hub that I wrote on 2/22/2011. The updated hub has a Top Ten Box Office table, a Top Ten Critics and Audience table, all of her movies ranked from 1st to 45th, and many new photos. Streep's latest movie The Iron Lady has received mixed reviews, but her performance is getting rave reviews. She won the Golden Globe® for Best Actress, which was her 24th Golden Globe® nomination. She then secured her 17th Oscar®nomination and her third Oscar® win for The Iron Lady.

If Lon Chaney was nicknamed "The Man of a Thousand Faces," then Meryl Streep is "The Woman of a Thousand Accents". Besides her skill at using accents, Meryl Streep is synonymous with the Academy Awards. Streep has been nominated 16 times for an Academy Award for acting. That is the record for most nominations for an actor or actress in the history of movies. She won for 1979's Kramer vs Kramer and 1982's Sophie's Choice. Streep also has received 24 Golden Globe® nominations and 5 Golden Globe® wins for her movie roles. If she had one negative, it was that her box office results of most of her movies were not exactly stellar. But even that negative has been overcome. Since 2004 she has had 5 blockbuster hits, and is now considered one of the best box office draws currently working.

Meryl Streep in 1979's Kramer vs Kramer....her biggest box office hit with 336.30 million in 2011 adjusted dollars.

Movie Score Card for # 11 Mamma Mia.

Video tribute of Meryl Streep's accents by slatester.

So what the heck are Movie Scores?

There are all kinds of ways to determine if you want to see or skip a movie. You can depend on your favorite critic. My favorites are Roger Ebert and Leonard Maltin. You might go to Rotten Tomatoes to get the consensus of all the critics. You might watch the viewer ratings at Yahoo Movies and IMDB. You might depend on which movies are doing the best at the box office. You might wait for the end of the year awards. Movie Score takes all of these options and creates a mathematical equation that generates a score from 1 to 100. The higher the score the better the movie. .

She's a legend in her own time. Streep is one of the all-time greatest actresses in film history. She's the most nominated person ever (actress or actor) and with good reason. I'm surprised she doesn't have more wins than she has. (Katherine Hepburn still holds the record for wins) Streep always delivers great performances, even in bad movies. An amazing actress.

I know I would never watch her movies until recently.River runs wild was good but the rest were to much drama for my taste. But lately she is making more mainstream movies.

Hi, Cogerson - this reminds me that I must watch more Meryl Streep movies - she is one excellent actor. When she played Julia Childs, she seemed to channel our favorite cook - she was perfect, fascinating and should have won the Oscar.

I agree Rob, she is indeed an amazing actress and yes it is amazing she only has two Oscar wins and she that is has been 29 years since she last won......29 years wow...I was just starting high school the last time she won

Thanks for commenting Dolores....I agree with you she should have won for Julia/Julia, she made me forget I was watching Meryl Streep playing Julia Child...great performance.

If I decide to study more films I will definitely look up her movies for starters. I've seen a few but certainly not enough. What I have seen is genius and I see why she's lasted this long. I think I'll definitely watch Iron Lady just because I'm fascinated by Margaret Thatcher. Thanks for the information Cogerson!

Oh...Magical Meryl. An actress beyond compare. The woman is flawless. She has such enormous talent, when I view any movie of hers, it's as though her character is so authentic, you can reach out and touch her. What else can I say? She truly is amazing...and yet, she's modest and down-to-earth!

Hey Alecia...since I updated this hub...she went out and won her 5th Golden Globe for The Iron Lady. She has so many interesting movies...it is really hard to pick one...I have always enjoyed watching Death Becomes Her...as it is something she does not normally do.....thanks for stopping by.

Hey fpherj48...thanks for stopping by. I agree with your comment....and I think her peers really think the same way....just look at the stats....45 movies.....and she has 24 Golden Globe nominations....and 16 Oscar nominations....or another way to look at every other movie she get a Golden Globe nomination and every third movie she will get an Oscar nomination....nobody with the exception of James Dean, can show anything close to these numbers....and James Dean only made three movies....thanks for the comments.

Immaculately written hub on this Hollywood Powerhouse- Meryl Streep! I watched most of her current films. I liked her mindblowing performances in some noted films such as The Devil wears Prada and Julie & Julia. I am eager to view her latest film, The Iron Lady. An unique star in her own right! Vote up.

Hey ishwaryaa33...thanks for such a nice compliment. I am sure we will be hearing more and more about her The Iron Lady performance. First she got the Golden Globe...next Tuesday she will get her record breaking 17th nomination...and in February I think she will pick up her 3rd Oscar win.....thanks for the visit and the compliment.

The academy always seems to hold Ms Streep to higher standards than other actors. She has lost out to other actresses many times when she in fact turned in the best performance.
