Matt Damon Movies-Best to Worst-From School Ties to We Bought A Zoo.
82Matt Damon in 2011's Contagion...one of his 6 movies that were in theaters in 2011.
Hub Update: My Matt Damon hub was the 33rd hub that I wrote on March 13th 2011. At the time True Grit was ending it's box office run and the first of his five 2011 movies, The Adjustment Bureau, had just opened. I have been updating the hub all year long as Contagion, Happy Feet Two, Margaret and most recently We Bought A Zoo opened. Since March of last year I have finally picked a hub format I like, so I figure the time had come to give Matt Damon a much deserved facelift. So here are the news things you get....a Top Ten Box Office table, a Top Ten Critic Audience table, brand new photos and all of his 36 movies ranked on the last table. It looks like his latest movie, We Bought A Zoo is going to finish as his 19th best movie according to the statistics of the movie. 2/22/2012.
Matt Damon is one of the top forty highest grossing actors of all time. One of his first roles was Mystic Pizza, which starred another newcomer...Julia Roberts. His breakthrough movie was 1997's Good Will Hunting. Not only was Damon nominated as Best Actor for Good Will Hunting, he also won the Oscar® for best screenplay. He shared the Oscar® win with his good friend Ben Affleck who also co-wrote the screenplay. Since his breakthrough, Damon has starred in many blockbuster hits. Some of these hits would include Saving Private Ryan, True Grit, The Departed, the Bourne movies and all three Ocean 11 movies.
Matt Damon in his 2nd biggest box office hit....2007's The Bourne Ultimatum with 263.10 million in 2012 dollars.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck winning their Oscar® for Good Will Hunting.
Movie Score card for Matt Damon's # 3 movie The Bourne Ultimatum.
So what the heck are Movie Scores?
There are all kinds of ways to determine if you want to see or skip a movie. You can depend on your favorite critic. My favorites are Roger Ebert and Leonard Maltin. You might go to Rotten Tomatoes to get the consensus of all the critics. You might watch the viewer ratings at Yahoo Movies and IMDB. You might depend on which movies are doing the best at the box office. You might wait for the end of the year awards. Movie Score takes all of these options and creates a mathematical equation that generates a score from 1 to 100. The higher the score the better the movie.

While Matt Damon has never been among my favorite movie stars, he's made some good films. He's fun in the Jason Bourne films. The Departed was a best picture winner, although I preferred the original Hong Kong version of that one. Damon's two latest films, True Grit and Adjustment Bureau, are very good. I didn't think Titan A.E. was all that bad.
Rob
I really like Ben Affleck and Matt Damon - would like to see them together in another film. I have enjoyed their movies - The Bourne films were really good. Thanks for all the information. GREAT SPEECH AT THE OSCARS...
Nice hub on Matt Damon!!! I think the Talented Mr. Ripley is the weirdest Damon movie I've seen. Adjustment Bureau and Good Will Hunting probably my faves of him. Great job!
My favourite Matt Damon film has to be Saving Private Ryan and not because of him either, ;)
I also enjoyed the Bourne trilogy.
I saw Hereafter recently, Matt plays a reluctant psychic, it was directed by Clint Eastwood. I didn't like it.
Good work as usual Cogerson. Oh and that Clint Eastwood hub is overdue... [wink]
I see Hereafter wasn't that high on the chart leaving me to wonder if I'll like it when I get it in Netflix,I really liked the Bourne movies and hope I like The Adjustment Bureau.;)
Now thems some good apples, nice hub, he has had a pretty good career so far.
Great list, he is my some very solid movies. I love him as Jason Bourne, I can not believe they are making a Bourne movie without him, it does not make any sense.
Yes, I agree that a Bourne movie without Matt Damon is like apple crumble without custard :-)
I guess I could say I am a bit of a Matt Damon fan but I couldn't understand why he did Stuck on You. I have not seen it because the trailer was more than I could take but with all those other great movies that seemed a bit desperate!
Great hub. Matt Damon remains one of my favorite actors of all time because of the diversity of his roles. Unlike Ben Affleck, who always seems to play some eternally youthful and wealthy play boy (with a few rare exceptions), Damon's roles are as different from one another as night and day.
What I love most about Good Will Hunting is that this was literally the film that Damon, Affleck and company put their sweat and blood into. It showed the rest of us what a lot of hard work, dedication and communication can help create and it set a bar for the rest of us who are aspiring film makers.
Damon is getting better with age. great job
He is one of my favorites. I loved Bagger Vance and Hereafter. Especially nice seeing him in the Top 10 of all actors. Very nice hub.
Okay, so I just did my best to get through the entire trailer of Gerry, and omg, they are either gay or on acid!!! Looks like a terrible movie, also Ben Affleck had nothing to do with Good Will Hunting, Damon just threw his buddy a bone, and put his name on the script. All in all, good list.
Wow- that's a great analysis! I liked Matt in True Grit and thought he was funny in The Informant, a movie that did not get a lot of publicity.
I am a big fan of Matt Damon Since I saw the Bourne films. Great hub.
Wow!...you've done your homework!! : ) I love Matt Damon and have his 'Bourne' series of movies on DVD. I need to bookmark this one! Thanks for sharing it with us, I'm very happy now! :D
Matt Damon's best performance for me was in 'The Talented Mr Ripley' - my friend Anthony Minghella made this movie and I went to the Premier. There is also a black and white movie of the same title (the original) which had a different ending - they are both good movies an interesting to compare. Good hub, like your style.
My favorite was Saving Private Ryan. We actually just watched it last weekend. Great hub!
It is funny you mention saving private ryan, Tom Hanks is an actor that improved with age. He was such a whiner in his earlier comedies. The Bourne movies could continue without him just as the Bond movies continued without Connery. Bourne is the poor man's james bond. Also a more realistic type bond. Bourne go's to different countries but he keeps a low profile. dressing down to blend in no tuxs, no playing poker in crowded casino's, no checking into Fancy hotels.
I like the fact that you have the three Bourne movies in your top 8, but I think they should all be in the Top 5. True Grit and Saving Private Ryan are great movies, but Damon's role is not the biggest, especially in Saving Private Ryan. Give Bourne his due.
Just to show Steve I can write a short response on one of your hubs even when I've seen some of the actor's films and want to see more...
I have seen The Talented Mr. Ripley, the first two Bourne Films (-still not seen the third,) and Good will Hunting.
Besides The Bourne Ultimatum I want to see The Good Shepard and The Informant.
if he hadn't made suspense films, I wouldn't have seen so many. but I read Robert ludlum and Patricia Highsmith.
I like Matt Damon as an actor and a person. I like how honest he is about his life in the spotlight and his approach to acting. His latest movies haven't really intrigued me but I'm hoping for something new and different soon. Great hub!
My favorites are The Talented Mr. Ripley and Good Will Hunting. I just saw the Adjustment Bureau but can't say it rated all that high with me; it's really the same old formula boy meets girl, boy loses girl, overcomes all obstacles... blah, blah! Yes it has a new sci-fi twist, but it's so trite in all the important ways. I do think highly of Damon's skills and look forward to seeing more of his work.
It's wonderful to see a young star living up to his promising start. Thanks for another thoughtful look at the movies!
Great hub Cogerson. I enjoy most movies with Matt Damon in, my favourites being The Bourne movies. So many movies get boring after the first two, but The Bourne Ultimatum was just as good as the first two. I cant imagine the next bourne movie being half as good if Matt Damon is not going to be in it.
Cogerson....I like this guy...he's quite a genius, actually. No matter how many movies he makes ( & I've probably seen most of them) I'm so stuck on "Good Will Hunting." and following closely behind, "The Departed." What a TWISTER & TURNER that one was! Truthfully, I got so confused the 1st time, I had to watch it twice. Besides, Matt reminds me of Leo and vise versa.....to ADD to my confusion!
Pretty interesting hub. He's definitely one of my more favourite actors, especially with his range of acting abilities. Invictus was a great movie in my opinion - I would've thought it would rank higher although I didn't watch it until recently.
Interesting to see how Damon's movies stack up. I think he's a very good actor, as well as a likable guy, which counts for a lot in my book. My favorite Damon movies are Good Will Hunting and The Talented Mr. Ripley, and I also like the Bourne series and the Oceans movies. In fact, my family voted to watch The Talented Mr. Ripley on Christmas Eve ... a strange choice, I guess, but a good counterpoint to all the holiday movies we watched.
He's in A LOT of movies... that's cool, but it's better when an actor of his caliber appears in movies sparingly.
My latest hubs.

This is a comprehensive list for Matt Damon fans. I'm not one of them, but I like his political views.
