Hub Update: Wow was I slacking, not only did I not update this hub when Mirror, Mirror opened; but I was completely unaware of her other release in 2011....Fireflies in the Garden which was made in 2008 but released in October of 2011. But the slacking is over and both movies are now in the hub. Mirror, Mirror is currently ranked as her 25th best movie while Fireflies in the Garden sits in last place at the number 38 spot. 05/14/2012.

When I first started writing movie hubs for hub pages back in January 2011. The first hubs I produced were on my favorite two current actors, Bruce Willis and Tom Hanks, and on my wife's favorite actress, Julia Roberts. When 2011's Larry Crowne starring Julia and Tom Hanks opened up at theaters across the country, I went to update both of their hubs, I realized that the quality of those early hubs was lacking to say the least. A major face lift was needed on both hubs. So hopefully after six months of hard learned lessons and 100 hubs later, I can write a much better Julia Roberts hub than the one I wrote back in January. So here you go....three weeks later than I originally intended, is my new Julia Roberts movie hub.

Julia Roberts was born in Smyrna, Georgia on October 28th 1967. She is a three time Oscar nominated actress(Steel Magnolias, Pretty Woman and Erin Brockovich). Roberts won the Oscar for her performance in Erin Brockovich. She is also a seven time Golden Globe nominated actress. She has won the Golden Globe three times(Steel Magnolias, Pretty Woman and Erin Brockovich). Her movies have opened number one at the box office 12 times and 11 of her movies have crossed the 100 million dollar mark.

Possibly Interesting Information On Julia Roberts.

1. Julia Roberts is the sister of actor Eric Roberts of Runaway Train and The Dark Knight fame. She is also the aunt of Emma Roberts of Nancy Drew and Scream 4 fame.

2. Julia Roberts has been named one of People magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People in the World" a record tying eleven times.

3. Julia Roberts has a production company called Red Om Films. That is her husband, Daniel Moder, name spelled backwards.

4. One of Julia Roberts first television appearances was as a juvenile rape victim in the initial season of the series Crime Story in 1986.

5. Meg Ryan was initially under contract to play Shelby, the Julia Roberts role in Steel Magnolias, but the producers let her out of it to play Sally in When Harry Met Sally. 8. When Julia Roberts won the Academy Award for best actress for her role as Erin Brockovich, she famously forgot to thank Brockovich in her acceptance speech. Afterward she was quoted as saying, "It doesn't bring out the Einstein moment that you hoped it would."

9. Movies Julia Roberts has turned down over the years....Sleepless in Seattle, Shakespeare in Love, The Blind Side, Godfather 3, While You Were Sleeping and Basic Instinct.

Hi. Here are my five favourite julia Roberts films, keeping in mind that she hasn't made enough films for me to make a top 10 list where they would actually be *favuorites* rather than films I've seen ,period, as recent films and I have a spotty relationship. I'd rather watch TCM.

Here they are in alphabetical order:

Notting Hill

Pelican Brief

Pretty Woman

Steel Magnolias-the first time I ever saw Julia Roberts ever

Sleeping with the Enemy

That being said, I have yet to see the following films, but I plan to:

Eat Pray Love

Erin Brochavich

Maybe its me, but I never really saw the appeal of Julia Roberts. She's an Okay actress and she's fairly pretty but I don't think she's any great shakes. I'm trying to think of an outstanding film she was in but none come to mind.

I must be missing something. I don't get it.

Hey Flora, well your list of movies represents some fine quality movies....my wife loves Julia Roberts....Notting Hill and Pretty Woman are ones we seem to watch over and over. As for Eat, Pray, Love....neither my wife or myself were very impressed with it. Erin Brockovich is very good....and I was hoping Albert Finney(a great classic actor) would have won an Oscar for his part in Brockovich....he got a nomination but no win....now that my hubs have been fixed...I am on to new material...can anyone say Richard Widmark.

Cogerson profile image

Cogerson Hub Author 10 months ago

Hey Rob...."I'm trying to think of an outstanding film she was in but none come to mind" that would be fighting words in my house....lol. Knowing your movie taste a little bit...I would have thought Charlie Wilson's War would have ranked well with you....although Phillip Seymour Hoffman has the best part.....or Closer.....although Closer is done very well....of the 4 main parts...there is nobody to pull for....they all seem pretty horrible people.....so maybe you are right there are no great Julia Roberts movies....but I will deny having ever said that....lol. Thanks for commenting.

Come on Robwrite, if Tom Hanks is the king of hollywood, julia roberts is the queen of hollywood, maybe her peak is over but talk about a great run. Her romantic comedies made her our aubrey hepburn of our generations, and julia then goes out and does one awesome dramatic role in erin brockovich. If you do not behave Cogerson I am going to tell your wife, LMAO.

Cogerson profile image

Excellent glad to see you are waiting with baited breathe...an Widmark update....IMDB list 75 projects for him....13 are tv movies/shows....gets us down to 62 movies ..I easily found box office numbers for 39 of his movies...now the hard or fun part....the search for the last 23 movies....so I am 62.90% complete.

Cogerson profile image

Cogerson Hub Author 10 months ago

Hey KellyE1967....calm down.....everything is going to be ok.....I can not speak for Rob.....but I agree she is one of the most popular actresses to ever appear on the big screen. I think you have to agree that her specialty is romantic comedy....which does not seem to get much critical acclaim...that being said Notting Hill is one of my favorite movies....so you do not have to tell my wife...lol.

I'm in complete agreement with Rob here. The only film of hers I enjoyed was Pretty Woman and that was 20 years ago. I'll probably find it unwatchable now.

Oh and I liked Flatliners for some obscure reason.

That Joker's smile of hers scares me. ;)

Voted down and... kidding Voted Up and Interesting. :)

Hey Steve....thanks for the comments.....no love for Notting Hill? That has to have been filmed somewhere near you....Grant is very funny in the film and Richard Curtis makes pretty good movies. I can not believe that Pretty Woman is not in your watch it once a year rotation.....lol. Maybe her Joker smile will be put to good use in her next role The Evil Queen in Snow White. Thanks for the votes up.

I think the power of Julia depends on your sex, most men think she is sexy and her movies are ok, while women associate with her and put her on a pedastol. I like her in some of her movies, but I think the last three or four I have seen she has been in some bad movies. But I am a guy, and my girlfriend thinks Eat Pray Love is the best movie in twenty years.

Dear Julia,

I've seen a good majority of your flicks. You cry, I cry...You laugh, I laugh. I'm in awe with your acting ability, you cease to amaze me. I'm disappointed that Stepmom didn't make the Top Ten, I still get emotional every time I watch it. With Pretty Woman you made most women want to become a hooker! Kinda. Notting Hill....awwww!!! Whether it's comedy or drama you rock it girl! On a more personal note....I'm glad you aren't a Runaway Bride anymore and you have a good man. (I hope I didn't just jinx your marriage). Looking forward to more of your outstanding entertainment.

Hi Mr Movies, Erin Brocovich is one of my all time favourite movies. The chemistry between Julia Roberts and Albert Finney is hollywood gold dust. The movie demonstrates how ordinary Davids' can sometimes outsmart ruthless goliaths'. Notting Hill is also a great movie where Hugh Grant is the perfect foil for Julia's character. The humour is painted on by an artists hand. Pretty Woman is another great movie where the whole mix works perfectly together. Richard Gere is great too. I can't remember Steel Magnolias but it was probably a great movie. I've seen most of her other movies and she rarely disappoints. Cheers my man, another cinematic marvel. Julia will finally forgive you for that first inept hub. :)

And finally 6 weeks ago...ruffridyer wrote..."I am a guy but really loved Steel Magnolias. Every female lead did an excellent job.

Just saw Sleeping with the enemy. Julia did a fantastic job as the abused woman taking her life back.

I think people forget Pretty Woman began with the police standing over a dead hooker. A good hub.

And I responded "Hey ruffridyer.....Julia is my wife's favorite actress so I think I have seen each of her movies at least twice...Steel Magnolias is too sad for repeat viewings according to my wife....during a tour of Hollywood they took us to the block where they filmed the opening scenes of Pretty Woman.......my favorite is Notting Hill...thanks for stopping by.

I would watch Notting Hill more just cause I prefer happy movies to dramas. But, Bergin is way creepy in that movie. It sticks with you.

Hey leann2800....my wife loves Julia in almost all of her movies...with the exception of Eat, Pray, Love....and she always picks Notting Hill over Sleeping With Enemy...as she also prefers happy movies to dramas.

I do love me a bit of Julia Roberts- especially in films such as Pretty Woman, Erin Brockovich and Oceans's Eleven. This is a great hub full of information. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the Julia Roberts information. It is great to see all the statistics of her movies compounded in one place. And you have a lot of information I never knew about Julia. My favorite movie of hers are Mystic Pizza, Erin Brockovich, and Mirror, Mirror. I wish her well in her ongoing career! Nice hub!

Hey Docmo. She is easily my wife's favorite actress and I must admit I do not fight her too hard when she picks out a Roberts movie to watch. Thanks for the comment and for stopping by.

Hey Sunshine. I was watching another movie the other day and one of the previews was Fireflies in the Garden....and I was like what is that movie....and sure enough it is one of the few Julia Roberts that did not get much of a release. I figure it can not be but so good if a movie with her in it sat on the shelf for 4 years and then gets almost no release...but I am sure my wife will want to check it out in the future....thanks for the comment(I look forward to Mirror Mirror).
