Harrison Ford Movies-Best to Worst-With Box Office Results/Grosses-1970-2011.
74Harrison Ford in his #1 movie Star Wars(Movie Score 81.34).
Earlier this year the Academy of Motion Pictures gave Eli Wallach a honorary Oscar. I was glad he got an Oscar as I loved Wallach as Tuco in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. I also love the fact that he still makes movies as he appoaches the century mark. My main thought when he received his Oscar, ......was when.... will the Academy recognize Harrison Ford'scareer. Ford has been appearing in motion pictures for nearly 50 years(he was an extra in 1963's The Great Escape). Ford has starred in some of the biggest blockbusters ever made. Movies like the original Star Wars trilogy, four Indiana Jones movies, two Jack Ryan movies, The Fugitive and Air Force One. On the critical side of Ford's career, he has appeared in eight movies that have been nominated for Best Picture of the Year. During his long career Ford has received one Oscar nomination for Best Actor and four Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor. In 2012 Harrison Ford will turn 70 years old. I think it is about time to give Harrison Ford his Honorary Oscar. While we wait for that Oscar, Ford will next been seen this summer in the movie Cowboys & Aliens.
My favorite Harrison Ford movies are Raiders of the Lost Ark and Bladerunner. In the following table you can see how your favorite Harrison Ford movie is ranked. In my case, Raiders of the Lost Ark came out #2, while Bladerunner sits at #17......a bad box office run, killed the score of Bladerunner, which is considered one of the best science fiction movies ever made.
The following table has Harrison Ford movies ranked by Movie Score, they can also be sorted by any of the category headings.

The Best of Harrison Ford.
#1 Star Wars(Movie Score 81.34)....starred as Han Solo, in one of the biggest blockbusters of all time.
#2 Raiders of the Lost Ark(Movie Score 79.98)....luckily Tom Selleck was too busy filming Magnum P.I. to play Indiana Jones in this movie.
#3 The Fugitive(Movie Score 79.60).....he played Dr. Richard Kimble in this classic chase movie.
#4 The Empire Strikes Back(Movie Score 78.48)....he returned as Han Solo, considered by many to be the best Star Wars movie.
#5 Witness(Movie Score 77.83)...he received his only Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in this movie.
The Worst of Harrison Ford.
The Bronze: #35 Extraordinary Measures(Movie Score 17.79)....Ford plays a doctor looking for a cure for a diseases......poor reviews and very poor box office....it just crossed the ten million dollar mark in box office grosses
The RunnerUp: #36 Journey to Shiloh(Movie Score 16.45)....Ford has a supporting part in this 1968 western starring James Caan, Ford has lots of screen time, but very little dialogue
Winner: #37 Crossing Over(Movie Score 14.04)....one of the few Harrison Ford movies to be completely ignored at the box office....pretty much a straight to DVD movie
Movie Score for the latest but not greatest Indiana Jones movie.
So what the heck are Movie Scores?
There are all kinds of ways to determine if you want to see or skip a movie. You can depend on your favorite critic. My favorites are Roger Ebert and Leonard Maltin. You might go to Rotten Tomatoes to get the consensus of all the critics. You might watch the viewer ratings at Yahoo Movies and IMDB. You might depend on which movies are doing the best at the box office. You might wait for the end of the year awards. Movie Score takes all of these options and creates a mathematical equation that generates a score from 1 to 100. The higher the score the better the movie.

Hans Solo is my all time favorite character from a far,far Galaxy, thanks Cogerson.;)
Harrison Ford was such a huge star from the late 70s through the 80s and 90s. He's been in a long slump in the 21st Century, which (sadly) his return to the Indiana Jones franchise did nothing to end. (Awful film!) Along with Stallone and Arnold S., he was one of a trio of mega-action superstars for his generation.
The first thing I ever saw him in was "American Graffiti", even though he had a very small part. I loved him as Han Solo but my favorite Ford role was as Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones. "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is one of my all-time favorite movies and possibly the best adventure film ever made.
Funny bit of trivia...By the mid seventies, Harrison Ford had given up acting and returned to carperntry because the acting wasn't working out as well as he'd hoped. He was doing a carpentry job in 20th Century Fox when he ran into George Lucas, who recognized him from "American Graffitit". (Lucas directed 'Graffiti'.) Lucas had been having a hard time casting the role of Han Solo in "Star Wars" and he asked Ford to audition. Ford got the part and his career skyrocketed immediately from there.
This was informative, and very well written.
I actually love watching Harrison Ford's movies.
I actually have a warm spot for Force 10 To Navarone. It could be, because I took my younger siblings to the movies for the first time on my own, and that was what we saw. We loved it.
Thanks for sharing.
Take Care,
N.E.
Blade runner is adult and has much less appeal to kids and the reason for its lower popularity.I enjoyed this very much. You have this laid out beautifully and it is easy to understand. Keep up the great HUBS. Up one and Useful. Hey! I'm now your fan! RJ
I think Indiana Jones and star wars best summed him up as our action hero. He's a damn fine actor too and does deserve some recognition. I can't remember Blade Runner, or what i did yesterday, come to think of it.
How about Anthony Hopkins, one of my favourite actors, with some classy credentials.
Cheers mate.
Wow I'm surprised that there are very few I haven't seen. Turns out I'm a fan and sadly in that teenage "It doesn't matter" sort of way. Damn I thought I was more sophisticated than that.
Another useful hub Cogerson cheers. I pretty much agree with the top two highest score ratings but I'd put Empire Strikes Back above The Fugitive.
The adjusted grosses are always fun to look at and it's good to see Star Wars (1977) way ahead of all the others, though your figures are for U.S. grosses only, worldwide Star Wars would have done about double that.
My favourite Harrison Ford film is the first Star Wars film followed by Raiders.
I have to confess I'm no longer a Ford fan and haven't seen any of his recent films, apart from the disappointing new Indy (or should that be "old" Indy). :)
Voted up and useful.
I have grown up with Harrison Ford, in some ways it is sad to realize he is almost 70, I enjoyed his most recent movie Morning Glory,I thought he was very good in that role. I do have to admit I was very disappointed in the last Indiana Jones movie. Very nice article.
Hey, very informative. I have always enjoyed his movies, did not know he was in The Great Escape as an extra. He is a very good actor - I thought Extraordinary Measures was a pretty good film - checking out a cure for a disease...we definitely need more cures for disease...YOUR HUBS ARE SO FULL OF INFORMATION.
Hey Cogerson, did not know that Bruce Willis is in The Verdict - that was a good movie. Next time I see it on TV I will check out the courtroom actors...thanks for the info...guess the movie and television stars have to start somewhere. I HAD HEARD THE STORY ABOUT HARRISION FORD DOING CARPENTRY WORK AND WENT FOR AUDITION...
Another great hub! I've always liked 'Regarding Henry' because Ford tried something a little different, 'Blade Runner' because it WAS something different, and 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' because of the hilarious interplay between Ford and Sean Connery.
Wow! I learned more about Harrison Ford from this Hub than I did from IMDb.com. Great hub... Voted Up.
very informative hub thanks for sharing
Great points and I am 100% behind you. I can not believe he is almost 70, give that man an Oscar.
Great List, Great Movies, Great Actor, Enough Said. Thanks for all the info. What do you think about this Cowboys and Aliens? Trailer is a little questionable.
I like Harrison, Six Days Seven Nights is probably my favorite but Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull was suprisingly good too! Great hub!
Great Hub! Harrison Ford has been overlooked for way to long by the academy. But since many of his best films make a ton of money, that seems translate to no oscar according to the way they vote today. The only movie I think is ranked way to high is IJ and the Crystal Skull. Terrible, terrible film. Not Harrison Ford's fault, bad story and bad CGI. Only reason that movie made money was because of the name Indiana Jones. That name recognition is linked almost uniquely to Harrison Ford.
This is a great hub. Thanks. I especially love The Fugitive movie.
Hi Cogerson. Sorry it took me so long to weigh in...I've been MIA. You stole my heart with this one. Harrison Ford is one of my favorites. Believe it or not, I've never seen "Star Wars", but the Indiana Jones series is on my "favorite movies list".
Thanks for this comprehensive list of his movies...I have something to look forward to.
voted up/useful and awesome.
He was one of favorites growing up, I loved him as Han and Indy, I wish they would have never made the 4th Indy movie.
Now we are talking, I agree he needs an Oscar, I do not think he will win one, so they will have to give him for an awesome career. My favorite Ford movie is Presumed Innocent and Blade Runner.
A nice interesting hub - particularly to see how Ford's films rate on your scoring system. He is one of the most watchable movie stars in history, and is a major contributory factor in all the blockbuster successes he's had. My favourites would include all the Indiana Jones movies, most of the Star Wars fims, The Fugitive and Regarding Henry. But best of all for me is Witness. (Have voted up)
I know you don't include bit parts in the rankings, but I love Ford's screen debut in the James Coburn movie Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round-more of a fun film than a great movie. He is the man who pages Coburn's character.
Here are my favourite movies of Ford.(Never mind best, I've seen apocolypse Now, for example, and it is excellent but it is too much for me.)
My five favourites in alphabetical order:
American Grafitti
Clear and Present Danger
The Conversation
Regarding Henry
Witness
Not surprising the genres from which these favourites came. With one exception, only one of my favourites is in the top five. This reflects my preference of genres, certainly. However, get to the top 10, and it still only involves three. I am surprised that The Coversation only just missed the top 20 as Ford has made some big hits and this film is a niche title rather than a blockbuster.
They are giving one to James Earl Jones as well. I'm happy about that. I don't know what took them so long to get to Eli wallach. Seems to be a quick before he dies attitude about several choices, yet in his nineties Eli could have died long ago. Widmark was offerd lifetime awardss all the time but he refused the ones that required him to make a speech. When he retired he retired. He would appear on Biography episodes because people came to him. He didn't hhave to go anywhere.
My latest hubs.

Great Hub. Informative. I've always liked Harrison Ford. Like most, probably first saw him in Star Wars, but loved the Indiana Jones series. He's only 70. Don't you have to be pushing 90 to get those honorary awards?
