Bruce Willis in 1994's Pulp Fiction...he was the only lead actor not to get an Oscar nomination.

I have followed Bruce Willis's career since he hit the big time with his star making role as David Addison on Moonlighting I still think the Moonlighting 3 episode story arc with Mark Harmon, was some the best television I have ever seen and the pinnacle of that series. Unfortunately, after that three episode arc, it all fell apart when David and Maddie finally got together.

Since Moonlighting, Bruce Willis has had a very busy career, making over 50 movies over the last 22 years. It has been a roller coaster ride...the highs..... movies like Pulp Fiction, all the Die Hards, and The Sixth Sense.....the lows....movies like The Whole Ten Yards, Hudson Hawk, Bonfire of the Vanities and North.

This hub will provide tables for his Top Ten Box Office hits, his Top Ten Movies according to critics and audiences and a final table that will rank all of his movies from Best to Worst using the combination of box office, critic and audience reviews and award recognition.

Bruce Willis in 1988's Die Hard his 8th biggest box office hit to date.

One quick thought about Bruce Willis's Top Ten Movies.

1. Pulp Fiction(Movie Score 78.75)........not only did this movie revive John Travolta's career...it probably saved Bruce's movie career as well

2. Sixth Sense(Movie Score 75.90)..........I will never forget the first time I saw this movie and how I felt as I realized the trick ending

3. Die Hard(Movie Score 66.10).........the movie considered the best action film of all time

4. Die Hard 2(Movie Score 64.18)..........solid sequel...with inflation this is the biggest hit of all four of the Die Hard movies

5. Look Who's Talking(Movie Score 62.47).......Bruce playing a talking baby was a monster box office hit

6. Armageddon(Movie Score 61.14).............Bruce's first 200 million movie

7. Over The Hedge(Movie Score 60.23).....Bruce provides the voice of R.J. a talking raccoon

8. Die Hard With a Vengeance(Movie Score 60.22)...good movie until the conclusion...it should have ended in New York City not Canada

9. Live Free and Die Hard(Movie Score 57.12)...McClane back after 12 years...they are already talking about a 5th Die Hard

10. Twelve Monkeys(Movie Score 55.15)....... Bruce either plays a crazy person or a time traveler ...you have to decide co-stars Brad Pitt

Easily Bruce Willis's worst movie...# 51 Breakfast of Champions ....based on novel by Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

The worst of Bruce Willis.

5th place Sunset(Movie Score 14.42).......Bruce plays Tom Mix in a cowboy/Hollywood mystery that was directed by the late Blake Edwards...very slow, confusing and boring

4th place Four Rooms(Movie Score 14.35)....Bruce shows up in the last segment of this movie...Quentin Tarentino directed Bruce's part

The Bronze The Whole Ten Yards(Movie Score 12.07)....oh why did you make this movie sequel...takes all the good will from the first movie and throws it all away

Runner Up: North (1994) Movie Score 12.52.... Bruce plays Elijah Wood's guardian angel in this very uneven comedy from Rob Reiner

Winner: Breakfast of Champions(Movie Score 11.27).....my favorite author Kurt Vonnegut wrote the book this movie was based....I had high expectations when I first heard this movie was being made....how this movie turned out is simply horrible

So what the heck are Movie Scores?

There are all kinds of ways to determine if you want to see or skip a movie. You can depend on your favorite critic. My favorites are Roger Ebert and Leonard Maltin. You might go to Rotten Tomatoes to get the consensus of all the critics. You might watch the viewer ratings at Yahoo Movies and IMDB. You might depend on which movies are doing the best at the box office. You might wait for the end of the year awards. Movie Score takes all of these options and creates a mathematical equation that generates a score from 1 to 100. The higher the score the better the movie.

How can Pulp Fiction score so low 71 points?

Cogerson profile image

Cogerson Hub Author 15 months ago

Hey FNN 31974....the formula is based on actor's role in the movie. Bruce is the only major actor in the movie not to receive any award nominations. So he gets stuck with a 71.75 Movie Score. For the same movie John Travolta got an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe nomination. Thus Travola's score for Pulp Fiction is 8 points higher at 79.75 Movie Score. If Travolta had won both awards his score would have gone to 86.75 Movie Score.

Cogerson profile image

Cogerson Hub Author 15 months ago

Yes hinton 1966....the more movies I put in the database I realized an error in my thinking....basically the actor was not receiving enough points for a Best Picture nomination ....so it was adjusted....it caused two actors to have different #1 movies. Bruce here....as Pulp Fiction swapped with Sixth Sense....and Julia Roberts's Erin Brockovich swapped with Pretty Woman. thanks for noticing

I think Hudson Hawk was Willis' worst ever... I actually walked out on that one... he wasn't bad as the crooked dad in Alpha Dog, but where he shines are in the Die Hard flicks. Also appreciated him A LOT in Unbreakable.... but I used to be a sucker for Shamalayan until his stuff sucked

Hudson Hawk is pretty bad.....I still want their to be a sequel to Unbreakable which I know M. Night wants to make....but Bruce is not getting any younger they need to hurry up

Bruce has made some bad movies...so some of his scores are bad because of (1) bad box office results (2) horrible reviews from critics and audiences (3) in the case of Breakfast of Champions...both 1 & 2

Yippee-ki-yay! This hub is like an antidote to that Audrey Hepburn hub Conanson. :)

I used to watch Moonlighting back in the 80's but not religiously you know? Never realising Bruce would be such an effective action hero, and a very popular one too.

Die Hard is an action classic, maybe the best one ever made, or tie with James Camerons T2.

Pulp Fiction remains my favourite Tarantino film, though I'll always have a soft spot for Kill Bill.

Hey I even enjoyed Armageddon. Michael Bay's over the top style suited the story. I remember reading how ticked off Willis was when Armageddon was shown at the Cannes film festival and all the critics laughed at his character's final speech to his daughter, played by Liv Tyler.

I guessed the surprise ending to Sixth Sense after reading about what a shocker it was, it was easy to work out within the first few minutes. The problem with people telling you about a twist ending is that you spend the film trying to work out what it might be. I haven't seen this in years, I have the DVD maybe its worth another look.

I remember enjoying Unbreakable, another film I haven't seen in a while, Willis and Samuel L. Jackson both very good in this.

Bruce was excellent in Sin City too. I really think he's an underrated actor.

I saw Willis in Red a few months ago and enjoyed it, but should have been better considering all the talent on show.

Looking forward to Die Hard 5 Die Hardest.

Voted Up and Awesome!

Cogerson Hub Author 8 months ago

Thanks for stopping by my oldest hub, Steve...lots of changes of over the last 7 months to this hub. Let's see I agree with you about Die Hard being one of the best action films ever....Die Hard, T2, and Predator would be hard to match.

Armaggedon is just a fun movie...the perfect popcorn movie....maybe I am too much of a Willis fan....but I like the talk from Bruce to Gracie at the end.

Sixth Sense, Pulp Fiction, and Unbreakable are all good movies....and two of them will be classics...Sixth Sense and Pulp Fiction....while...I know there has been talk of a Unbreakable 2...they better hurry as Willis is pushing 60 now.

And finally I agree...he is very underrated....maybe he will get some Oscar love as he gets older and finds a supporting role that the Oscar voters will like....I have seen all 51 movies on the list...I think the only actor that I have seen their entire career....thanks for the great comments.

Hey lyricwriter ...this was actually the very first hub I did....it looked nothing like the way it currently looks...I would imagine that it has has 5 or 6 complete remodels. So I am very glad to hear that you like all the facts and information in the hub. I appreciate your votes, you checking out the hub and for the comment.

Well, being that I've recently learned that Bruce Willis is your favourite current actor, I thought I'd comment on his hub.

First, my favourite part of Bruce's career is, indeed, Moonlighting. I loved that show. I haven't seen it in a few years. I have seen a small number of his films.

First:

Still haven't seen Pulp Fiction but I plan to see it. I'm not a Die Hard movie type, so will likely never see those ones. I was never interested in seeing The Sixth Sense-heard what the ending was not long after it was released. There is a certain other film with Nicole Kidman which is similar...I have seen that one.

Now then, about the top ten movies-ouch. I've not seen any of his box office hits. Among critics top ten-I have seen Nobody's Fool, Sin City, and Red.

The highest movie score listing I've seen is Sin City at #13. The most recent film I've seen is Red.

My favourite movie of Bruce's career is Bandits. It is halarious and fits in with thpe of movie genre I enjoy. Reds is a close second because of the cast.

The only other Willis film I've seen is Bonfire of the Vanities-why, I don't know. I must have been with a group of friends.

Hey Flora thanks for checking out (a) my oldest hub....although with all the updates it has received it looks like nothing like the first time I hit the publish button....and (b) my favorite current actor's hub. I did Bruce first so I could say....he was number one on my chart that complies the information at least for awhile...he has steadily fallen down the chart...he is #53 or so now....but he was first for awhile.

Well I would say my top three Bruce Willis movies are Pulp Fiction, 12 Monkeys and Sixth Sense. The Others is a pale copy of Sixth Sense....the child actor in The Sixth Sense gives one of the best performances by a kid ever....12 Monkeys is a great film that could either be a science fiction film...or a case study of a complete nut in a nuthouse....I have seen the movie 10 to 15 times...I am still not sure what the answer is...and Pulp Fiction is a classic that changed how movies get made.

I am somewhat surprised you have seen Sin City....it is a good movie....but pretty intense and gory....and another movie that changed how movies get made. Red and Bandits are good movies...I did not like the ending of Bandits. Nobody's Fool would probably be in my Top 5 Willis movies....I love the acting between Willis and Newman.

As for Moonlighting...it was some of the best tv ever....I have been a huge fan of Willis ever since he did some theater work in Norfolk Va....years before he was a star....

Wow I feel like I have been rambling....but I like to talk Willis....lol...thanks for checking out this hub.

I talk like this about Hitch or Peck :)

I saw Sin City with a group of people who like that sort of film. Otherwise no, I wouldn't have seen it.

I didn't realize until halfway through The Others it was the same film-I saw it for Kidman.

I'll probably see the sixth sense on TV eventually, but I found out about the ending shortly after it started playing in theatres and somehow, that made me annoyed. Keep plot lines secret, please! It's one thing to talk about Janet Leigh being killed off early in Psycho decades after the movie was made-but while the movie is in its first theatre is wrong. ummm- BAD FORM

Hey Flora I think most people kept the ending of The Sixth Sense a secret....especially considering how that movie took America by store....at one point it was the 9th biggest hit of all-time. My 19 year old son and his 18 year old girlfriend just watched The Sixth Sense at our house a couple of weekends ago....she was stunned by the ending....did not see it all.

Hitchcock believed in keeping plot lines secret...I read that when Psycho opened...no was allowed to enter the theater once it started...plus he tried to market it as a comedy/light entertainment...just so he could scare the audience more....the trailers these days till everything there is to no about a movie....Just going back to The Sixth Sense...experiencing the end of The Sixth Sense with a packed theater is one of my most pleasurable movie experiences....I saw it 4 times at the theater....and you could hear waves of people figuring out the movie..it was awesome.
