Battle of the Movies-Originals vs Remakes.

Updated on September 29, 2012

Recently my favorite mother-in-law was visiting. During her stay the conversation turned to hub pages. She offered the suggestion of comparing original movies with their remakes as a possible hub subject. After taking that suggestion in, I thought two things, (1) hey that is a great idea and (2) why had I not thought of it. So I want to thank my mother-in-law for the great idea.

This first hub, will look at some of the movies that have been remade two or more times. The winner will be based on the movie with the highest Movie Score. Movie Score looks at three main categories....(1) how the movie performed at the box office (2) how critics and audiences received the movie and (3) award recognition via Oscars and Golden Globes. Movie Score then puts all this information together in a math equation and comes up with a score....the higher the score the better the movie...perfect score is 100.

Movie Score Winner: 1935's Mutiny on the Bounty(Movie Score 94.10).

#1 The Mutiny on the Bounty movies:

The true story of a 1787 breadfruit expedition aboard the HMS Bounty has always fascinated people. The story of the mutiny has been adapted numerous times to the page, the screen, and the stage. Poems first started appearing in 1810, while the first books started appearing in 1831. Over the years there have been five Mutiny on the Bounty movies. The first one was a silent film back in 1916. The second one was Errol Flynn's first movie. The third one(Gable) won the Oscar for Best Picture. The fourth one(Brando) cost so much it was considered a bomb even after a decent box office run. The fifth one(Gibson) is considered the most accurate one. It has been 27 years since the last Bounty movie...it is time for a new one.

Movie Score Winner: 1933's King Kong (Movie Score 69.58)

#2 The King Kong movies:

King Kong is a fictional monster resembling a gorilla that has appeared in several movies since 1933. These include the groundbreaking 1933 movie, the film remakes of 1976(Jeff Bridges) and 2005(Peter Jackson), as well as various sequels of the first two films. The sequels are generally considered to be pretty bad movies and not worth watching. Check out fellow hubber Steve Lensman's awesome King Kong hub for lots of great details on the 1933 version.

#5 Sir Michael Caine Remakes:

Michael Caine is one of my favorite actors out there. There have already been 4 of his movies already remade....they are Alfie, Sleuth, The Italian Job and Get Carter. Caine's 1966 movie Gambit is currently being remade with Colin Firth taking over the Caine role. Other possible Caine movies that could be remade via Hollywood rumors....The Ipcress File, The Man Who Would Be King and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels(which is actually a remake of Brando's Bedtime Stories). The following table will list the original and the remake....the better movie will be highlighted.
