The search for finding the Top 100 Sports Movies Of All-Time takes us to the sports of basketball and hockey. This hub has 44 basketball movies and 16 hockey movies ranked by box office results, critical reception and Movie Score(which is the combo of box office, critical reception and award recognition).

Basketball movies are not exactly my favorite types of movies to watch, but I will say that I can watch Hoosiers over and over. Hoosiers finishes 4th on the Movie Score chart because it did not really fare very well at the box office(9th of all the basketball movies).

This is the third part of a series of sports movie hubs that will end with a combined Top 100 sports movie hub. Sports that are left to research......soccer(yes Steve Lensman ....soccer) boxing, golf, rugby and racing(to include horse racing, bike racing, auto racing and foot racing).

These movies are not my cup of tea, but I will agree with you that Hoosiers was an excellent movie. I also enjoyed Miracles with Kurt Russell, I really love the scene with the whistle and the practice. Voted up and useful.

Thanks for stopping by AlabamaGirl86.....I agree 100% on Hoosiers and Miracle....two very good movies.

I have to agree with what both of you have said-Hoosiers was enjoyable. I note, though, that when I listed favourite Gene Hackman movies this movie was not on my list on your hub. I loved watching my own school play basketball. But I personally knew the players.

Slap shot is a Paul Newman movie. Newman is always enjoyable. But I prefer Curling to Hockey-Curling is also very popular in Canada. As far as I know, the only Curling movie is Men With Brooms.

Looking forward to that 100 top sports movies hub Cogerson. Curious to see which sport has the best score ratings. Pool? Snooker? Tiddlywinks?

Embarrassed to admit I've only seen 4 of the 43 basketball films you've listed, and just 2 Hockey films Slap Shot and Sudden Death. So many of those those titles I've never heard of before.

Good work compiling all this.

Thanks for the comments Flora, Hackman has lots of great movies, so I can see why Hoosiers might not make your Top Ten....that is the benefit of being a great actor...at the end of your career you have too many great movies to cram into a Top Ten list. As for Men with Brooms....I will include that on my last hub that has somewhat unusual sports with few movies about them...thanks for stopping by.

Hey Steve all this hubs are pretty much my worksheets for the final hub....so instead of producing a hub at the end that has 500 movies...I decided to break it down by sports. So I can understand why you have not seen many of these movies....my count is....counting...9 of the hockey movies....and but only 6 of the basketball movies.....I think by the time I finish this project I bet you will be at 80% of the final 100 movies. Thanks for reading the hub.

The only thing worse than watching a basketball on tv is watching a basketball movie, other than Hoosiers I can not tell you of a single basketball movie I liked. Hockey is a little better, but not much better. Voted up but not my favorite hub that you have done. Kudos.

Interesting idea. ESPN did something like this and Hoosiers finished number one overall, so I guess you will be having a different number one since Hoosiers is ranked fourth on the big table, but first according to critics. As for hockey, Kurt Russell as Herb Brooks is a great performance. Voted up and useful.

Yay for a shout-out to White Men Cant Jump! Excellent movie which I've seen many times! I do have to hit the mute button when Rosie Perez speaks...nails on chalkboard...eeeek! I do enjoy my bball movies and playing the game. Great hub!!! Way UP!!

Yep Yankees Rule....Hoosiers will not win this competition....it will be curious where it ends up....my ranking system does include box office.....and as great as Hoosier as is....it did next to nothing at the box office....I agree 100% Kurt Russell is awesome in Miracle...thanks for stopping by and commenting.

okay, never mind. It looks like you already answered my query on whether or not boxing films would be covered too. sorry. lol. However, I have to say that I'm very impressed, as you managed to put together another great sports film list. Although I am surprised by how few Hockey films that we have. For some reason i thought there'd be more. Oh well. Anyways, thanks again for writing this cogerson, as I look forward to reading the rest of your sport movie hubs. :)

Hey Sunshine625.....Rosie Perez's voice probably had a lot to do with her pretty short career.....I read that Wesley Snipes was actually a horrible basketball player...he did an awesome job of acting like a good player in that movie....as always thanks for stopping by and reading my hub.

Hey Stevennix2001....I looked for more hockey movies...most were tv movies...which I have been throwing out since I started this sports hub. I did find Idols of the Crowd...which is a very early John Wayne movie....I never could imagine The Duke on Ice. Glad you are enjoying the sports movie hubs.

Slap shot is by far my favorite movie of the bunch...What category are you going to put Rollerball in,lol.

I always enjoy the infographs Cogerson.;)

Cogerson profile image

Cogerson Hub Author 10 months ago

Hey mentalist acer.....Slap Shot is a classic....Newman and the director George Roy Hill made three movies together....maybe you have heard of those three.....Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, The Sting and Slap Shot....not a bad trifecta of movies. As for Rollerball....whenever I get to the final hub and I am picking up hard to categorize movies....both Rollerballs will make that hub....as well as Baseketball.....and the one curling movie Men with Brooms...as always thanks for reading and commenting.

Number is an awesome movie, in real life Harrelson was a baller while Snipes was a horrible b-ball player. Hoosiers is still the best. As well as Slap Shot on the hockey side. Awesome hubs, I have really enjoyed them.

I have heard that about Snipes as well, I am glad you are enjoying this hubs. Keep an eye out for the final hub it should be out very soon.
