Barbra Streisand Movies-Best to Worst-With Box Office Grosses 1968-2010
84Streisand in her number one film 1968's Funny Girl.
This Barbra Streisand hub comes from an e-mail request from KellyE1967 that I do more actress hubs. I can also say that Myrna Loy, Bette Davis, Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn are coming soon. Before Lady Gaga, Madonna and Oprah, Streisand had to be the most influential woman in the world(even if they did not have such titles back then). As a singer, Streisand has sold over 140 million albums and won 8 Grammy awards. This hub will look at her equally successfully movie career.
Streisand's movie career started off with a bang. Her feature debut was in 1968's Funny Girl. Funny Girl would be her second biggest box office hit of her career and win her the Oscar for Best Actress. The peak of her movie career was from 1968 to 1979. She would appear in the blockbusters What's Up Doc?, A Star Is Born, Funny Girl and The Way We Were. In 1983 she started to direct her own movies and had great success with Yentl and The Prince of Tides. After nearly a ten year break from movies, she appeared as Ben Stiller's mom in the 2004's Meet the Fockers and 2010's Little Fockers. She is currently working on The Mother's Curse, where she will play Seth Rogen's mother in a road trip comedy.
Streisand and Redford in 1973's The Way We Were...her 5th biggest box office hit with 221.80 million in 2011 dollars.

Barbra Streisand winning her Oscar for Funny Girl.
Things I Found Interesting When Researching This Hub on Barbra Streisand.
1. Streisand has only made 18 movies in her movie career.
2. Her movies have averaged 162.90 million in 2011 box office dollars, which is the highest of any actress I have done, 7th overall of both actors and actresses.
3. She is one of the few people to win an Oscar, a Grammy, a Tony, and an Emmy award.
4. She has received two Oscar nominations for Best Actress(Funny Girl & The Way We Were), two Oscar nominations for Best Song(A Star is Born & The Mirror Has Two Faces) and one Oscar nomination for Best Picture(The Prince of Tides).
5. She won Oscars for Funny Girl and A Star Is Born.
6. 50% of her acting performances have been nominated for a Golden Globe award for Best Actress. Of her 9 nominations she won for Funny Girl and A Star Is Born.
7. She has been nominated for 2 Best Director Golden Globe awards. She won for 1983's Yentl.
8. Although she has appeared in only 18 movies, those 18 movies have been nominated for 44 Oscars....or 2.44 nominations per movie.
9. 2.44 Oscar nominations per movie is the highest average that I have found for any movie star. It barely beats out Clark Gable's average of 2.42 nominations per movie.
10. Roles she turned down....Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Cabaret, Chicago, Cinderella Liberty, The Exorcist, Julia, King Kong(1976), Misery, Oceans Twelve, Thelma and Louise and Titanic.

Wow a man that listens, thank you for doing one of my favorites, and giving me new information. I did not even know I had a new Barbra movie to look forward to. My favorites are Funny Girl and Funny Lady. The Way We Were is one of the greatest romantic movies ever, although I did not like the ending. For her comedies I will go with What's Up Doc! and For Pete's Sake. I could go on and on but this is your hub. Thank you thank you.
I love BS! Ha! Really I do, and she is so interesting. One of the stars that hasn't made herself so available to the press. She can act, sing - and she's beautiful!
I have seen most of her movies but you've given me a few to look forward to. I didn't see Little Fockers - I wonder if the kids can watch it?
Ok - well I will just watch it with Dave then! Lol thanks!
Not much of a Barbra fan, but I do respect the numbers she put up, I had know idea that she had been in so many monster hits, thanks for sharing. Voted up and useful.
A wonderful woman with a pulse, this is a nice surprise! BS is one of my favs! Her singing, acting and that good looking hubby of hers....Barbra has it all! Great tribute cogerson!!! I really enjoyed Fay's comment too! lol Up/Tweet/Rock Star :)
She's not one of my favorites but there's no denying she's a force in the entertainment media. My parents were big fans of her singing. I remember being dragged to see "Funny Girl" with my family when I was a kid and I hated it at the time, but in retrospect, she did do a very good performance.

Hey, guy who listens...My favorite BS movie is Funny Girl...The Mirror has two faces is another favorite...I believe that she has a fabulous voice - I like to listen her sing on CD's. THANKS FOR THE HUB COGERSON.
I LOVE these hubs because I am a bit of a movie buff myself...looking forward to Myrna Loy and the other oldies too! Up and awesome!
I must admit she's not my favorite actress/film maker in Hollywood, but this is an amazing Hub. Voted up and Useful.
YOU ARE WELCOME COGERSON...
LOOKING FORWARD TO MANY MORE HUBS...
And I look forward to reading your upcoming hubs on Taylor and Hepburn especially, once again thanks for doing B.S.
I am a huge Barbra fan, I will be sending this page to my friends who are also huge Barbra fans, I love everything she sings and all her movies. I even can forgive you for saying that there might be a worst Barbra Streisand movie. Ok I agree All Night Long is not a classic movie, but she is very good in that movie. Thank you very much for giving Barbra her due as an actress.
I have not seen any of her movies that I am aware of, but I will say that I found her interesting facts, indeed interesting. I had know idea her movies were so popular, 3 movies over 300 million, half of her performances getting Golden Globe nominations, and Oscar love as well 44 nominations in 18 movies is pretty impressive. I can see why the Barbara band wagon is so full, although I will remain off that band wagon. Voted up and interesting.
Ok so you are listening to e-mailers, well I have been asking for a Gene Hackman hub for awhile, I have been one of longest tenure followers, what about me, lol. Bring Gene some credit.
Gene Hackman is an excellent idea! The Poseidon Adventure...classic movie, now I have to watch it for the 50th time!!! :)
I love this woman so, so much! Voted up. This hub makes me want to watch everything all over again.
I love barbara. Love all of her movies. She is funny, she can act, and what a voice.
Excellent movie hubs! None better!
I learn something ever time I read one of your movie hubs. I liked the facts that you put at the end of the hub. Streisand is not somebody I watch very often, but she probably is my mom's Oprah. Voted up and useful.
I see my suggestion has gotten a decent amount of comments, you are welcome.
Steisand in Funny Girl, was my all time favorite movie of hers. Great hub voted up from me!
Amazing, I was really only aware of her singing, sure I knew she had made some movies, but I was not aware of how big she was in the 1970s at the box office. Another reason why she is such a great lady. She looks so pretty in the What's Up Doc! photo you attached. I have some movies I need to go and watch. Thanks for writing this awesome hub.
Another great hub! By the way, you've made it on the Hubpages Facebook page again. You are kicking butt! Congratulations! Voted up on here and voted "like" on Facebook. :-)
Hi, Cogerson.
I don't think you'll find many surprises with my love of music and older films. One thing: I will say that though the theme song is beautiful, I cannot stand her version of A Star Is Born. It is over the top. And notice how my preferences are not necessarily at the top of either of the three ranking lists.
Here are my 5 favourite Barbra Streisand films in alphabetical order:
Hello Dolly (although I prefer the live version starring the great Carol Channing I saw in Vancouver. I think I enjoy this film specifically for louis Armstrong)
Funny Girl
On a Clear Day You Can See Forever
The Way We Were
Yentl
I think that's my problem with What's Up Doc?-I prefer Bringing Up Baby
great! Let us know what you think
I've already read them. Thanks!
Loved this hub. I'm a big BS fan (though I know some of her co-stars didn't, Walter Matthau is supposed to have said "I have more talent in my smallest fart than she has in her entire body.". I think there are few actresses in film with her comic timing and flair. Watch her in Owl and The Pussycat and For Pete's Sake to see her at her best in this respect. She is a real 'star' in every sense of the world and I think her only being in 18 movies shows that she is very selective in what she chooses to do and gosh, she has chosen very well!
streisand's movie career is awful and her singing is suspect because when she sang live for her audition for a record deal, the executives at columbia turned her down it wasn't until her manager got a recording that enhanced her voice, that they decided to give her a chance. Also i'v seen her in concert and the truth is she can't match the quality live that she masters in recordings ( please no stage-fright excuses ) if you want to hear a singer who is really gifted and can sing better live and actually surpass her recordings take a listen to linda ronstadt.she has a much better and powerful voice than barbra. don't let 20 some years of listening to recorded streisand fool you into thinking that her voice is better ( like i did ). here's an example i heard the song evergeen 0n recordings and was amazed by the way streisand held her last note. When she sang it in her one voice concert. she didn't hold that note. and to me holding notes and such is what made her special. so if she can't do the special things live. she really is not that great after all.,but linda ronstadt can do all her great singing live. LIsten to her version of "love has no pride" on you tube. (the one wear she's wearing the short light blue dress) unlike streisand who has big productions , ronstadt sings on a simple stage and blows me away more than streisand ever did live. and that's how i know linda ronstadt is a much better singer and if you listen to ronstadt's other songs you'll find that you'll like them right away ( unlike barbra's)
Barbra is turning 70 this year and TCM is honoring her with a night of her films on Tuesday, April 24th.
Barbra is an original talent that will never be duplicated nor surpassed. She's the greatest female recording artist of all time. She has made some amazing movies and is contiuing to make great films. The Guilt Trip is coming out in Fall 2012 and Gypsy is getting ready to be filmed. She is a legend, icon, superstar and artistic genius.

Oh Cogerson, this is girl! Of course, I fell out with her for a while when she did "The Way we Were", cause she was trying to steal my guy. But I forgave her. All she has to do is sing. She's one of the best to me, so it was a bonus to discover that her acting is not all bad either...and she's funny! She turned down some great movies.
